Look at it another way… If they rode off into the sunset together and lived to a ripe old age together, would it be the “greatest love story ever told”?
my personal fav love story was the Debbie does series

Exactly.
Yeah, I was so depressed. Especially by how they die. It’s huge irony that they both think the world isn’t worth living without the other, so they kill themselves… I hope no one’s ever made that mistake in real life!
Oh, by the way, is that picture from a place in Door County called, “The Farm”? The cow and barn look familiar.
yeah. but it just feels a bit ecky.
but to me its not the sadest movie, i creid in beaches. lol.
and AI.
and the last samuri. lol.
im such a wuss.
beaches was pretty sad too, I hate chick flicks for that very reason. Life is sad enough, I can do without the Mauri, Jerry Springer, Opra. Blahhh… I don’t like to be reminded of negative stuff. I’m more an Adam Sandler, Chris Farley kinda girl.
My theory is that they weren’t really in love in first place. I mean, come on! They were together a day! It was teen angst mixed with infatuation mixed with politics and turned terribly sour. Hardly the greatest love story ever told…
it depends on how you view life, and death.
duh, their love for each other transcended life and death.
Romeo and Juliet lived in a war-zone…they grew up watching people around them die for a worthless cause….in this world there is no room for love, only war. They challenge the world by falling in love, and plus that they are supposed to be enemies. So when one dies, the love dies…hope is gone. Why would they want to live in that world if they didn’t have each other?
And yes, it is a “tragedy” and the rule of those is that they do not have a happy ending…Shakespeare was writing one on purpose so he would have know from the very first page that the heroins would die.
It wouldn’t be so popular if it ended with them both living happily ever after…It’s famous because it doesn’t end happily…that’s what sets it apart from all the other cliche love stories in the world today.
OOOOHHHHHHHHH yes… i think that romeo and juliet should have thought things through. was it really worth killing yourself over a boy at 14???
lol, so true, so true.
i know that without the killing, it would have sucked, but its still a shame that these two lovers both killed themselves. i mean..
how far would you go for the one you love?
