Love help: OK, so I moved away from the city to a quasi-suburbs area. - Help.com

OK, so I moved away from the city to a quasi-suburbs area.

All of my friends live in the city and I haven’t met anyone where I live. Also, I was in university for years and very focussed on my studies, so I didn’t have time to make new friends. Love my friends, but I yearn to just hang with someone in the neighborhood, go for coffee, etc. Any advice for making new friends?

Go for walks and a have a peek on who’s about. Say hi to people. Make it a routine, and people will start warming up. Stop and talk, say something nice about their house, yard, car, whatever.

Or… heck, just go straight to the coffee shop. Hang out there on a regular basis and see who else hangs out.

great advice guys… i think i just need to get past my shyness and talk to people. usually i meet people at work, school, etc. i’m kinda at crossroads right now (i.e. done school, looking for work), so i think it will be easier once things level out.

Get involved with things you love to do or want to try, and you’ll meet people who love to do those things, too.

Yeah, you’ll be fine.

Make cupcakes for your neighbors. Nobody can be mean when they’re getting cupcakes. ;-)

You’re head’s on straight, Elly.

Hey, Elly! I didn’t even think to ask if you had children. With a smashing 12 yo boy like yours, there’s even more opportunity to get involved. Does he play sports or anything group-oriented where you might meet people together?

he’s not into sports, other than playing it during phys ed class. he is a computer whiz though. he’s also at the age where he wants to hang around with his friends, w/o mother. i have no problem with that though, i like that he’s a sociable kid.
