Suggestions Required Regarding Career
Hi guys
I am a Computer Science graduate passed out in 2006. However, there have been some serious ups and downs in my career…
I was working as an Account Manager in one of the biggest IT integrators who provides end-to-end IT solutions to end customers. I was in the networking and telephony department wherein the products I was handling was Cisco and Nortel. I worked there for a year and then switched over to one of the distributors of Nortel. Now, I am facing some issues as to what shall be the right choice for me.
Below are the pros and cons of being in either companies:
PRO’S OF BEING WITH SYSTEM INTEGRATOR:
1. Get to handle both Cisco and Nortel - Networking and Telephony.
2. Have a wider portfolio wherein I can sell enterprise level telephony and networking applications as well.
3. Close by to my home.
4. Know all the people who help me with getting leads.
5. Get to interface with the end customer. Providing solutions to the end-customer is my area of interest.
6. Can remain up-to-date with the latest in technology.
7. Timings are much more suitable which can enable me to do some personal development like MBA or something else.
CONS OF BEING WITH SYSTEM INTEGRATOR:
1. Lower salary
2. Position is that of an Account Manager.
PROS OF BEING WITH DISTRIBUTOR:
1. Good salary
2. Position is that of a Territory Manager
3. Once settled, I would not have to run behind my re-sellers since there are only two re-sellers in the market.
4. Leads would be provided by Nortel which I have to hand over to my channel partners.
5. Get to meet manager’s of companies.
CONS OF BEING WITH DISTRIBUTOR:
1. Far away from home
2. Long working hours
3. Can sell only Nortel
4. Have to sell only Nortel SMB portfolio. The portfolio here is very much restricted to just the SMB sector.
5. Don’t get to interact with the end customer and provide solutions.
6. Because of my age, i.e. 22, manager’s of companies tend to make me lightly.
Kindly help me with regards to what to do and where should I go since my previous company is asking me to re-join the company.
