People asking for Computer help please read.

To be able to help you we need to have more detail than “there was an error and now the computer does not start”

with that information there is no way that we can help.
here is a list of information that if you send along then we can help better.
-what operating system(what windows ie: xp, vista, 98, etc.)
-desktop or laptop.
-any error messages exactly as they were displayed.
-any odd noises, or smells that have ocoured since the problem.
-let us know if you have installed any new hardware or software since the problem.

By posting this information the first time round we don’t have to ask and can resolve the issue faster.

Thanks Roulston. I am always guessing in the wind at half of them too on experience because they never include such valuable information like newly installed hardware/software, OS, RAM, etc.

I doubt the random people that come in here will see your message, but it’s worth the old college effore ~smiles~.

That’s nothing, we get a lot of, “my puter won’t work. How come?”. My reply is usually, “Is my car running?”. What we ought to do is form a computer psychic group and do remote readings and then do psychic remote reapirs.

I am think of quitting help.com because the religious groups that get on here and everything is corrected by prayer and if you say any different and they do not like the reply to their problem. Then the moderators are sent in and complained to and you are really censored over nothing. All because the complainer, even though you did not use profanity but hard worded sentences, they are going to kick you off help.com. How much you wanna bet this will be censored or even removed?

Great post. However, most people won’t offer that type of information because; they don’t know we need it until we ask for it. That reminds me of a story…

A cashier at a branch bank called the main office and asked if they had a fire there. ‘No why do you ask’ was the response. ‘Well’, she said ‘I have smoke coming out of my computer’

He He, have a fine day Ron

Hi iv’e seen that you have been able to help a couple of people out with thier computer problems…I’ve gotten a blue screent that reads this
A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VLOUME
If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen restart you computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask you hardware or software manufacturer for any new window updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware, or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart you computer, press F8 to select Advance Startup options, and then select Safe Mode.

I’ve tried to use the safe mode but when i get on it, it’s just a bunch of white letter with a black background, the it goes to that blue screen again. I didn’t instalee a new software although I did update one to newer version which I dont’ know if that is installing a new one. I also don’t know how to get to the BIOS menu.
I have a dell laptop, Inspiron 1200, with windows XP, i’ve had it for about a year! If you can halp me I’d appreciate it!
