Music or College First?

1) Pursue Music (attend college if success is not found)
2) Pursue College (pursue music after graduation)

I’m going to The Institute of Production and Recording (IPR) to learn Music and Business Management, Recording, and Engineering.

Any advice, suggestions, or help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Pursuing music will probably be harder, but if that’s what you want to do, go for it. What kind of music do you play? That can affect whether or not school should be a priority.

You can do both at the same time. If it’s music you’re studying, you’ll be surrounded by loads of musicians…just in the right scene. That’s what I’m planning to do myself. I had chosen to pursue music first, but in the end, I’m going to study in music so I can learn aswell as making friends and meeting musicians who can help me pursue my music carreer properly after. :)

college. I know a lot of dirt poor musicians. College degree you can fall back on when you pursue music. You cant fall back on anything if you fail at the music. You cant do both because touring will be too difficult.

Play at local places as a hobby until you finish college.

I Agree with Debbi, College first !

if you do college first ( I see your college will be about music too so that’s good) then you’ll have strong base and more chance to become more successful in music.
good luck :)

As someone who did it the hard way…I’d suggest College to you mate. Don’t forget, music is all about ‘who you know’ and you just might make some fantastic friends there. Like ‘Queen’ or ‘Radiohead’. Do both mate and live life to the max - before you know it, you’ll be in yor 30’s and wondering where it all went.
Good luck!

I say college first, you are studying music so that will help you when you get out as well as meeting people that will be able to help you when you graduate.

Lokk dude I have sat next to people with two masters degree’s getting paid 12 dollars and hour or so all my life. I am a music producer and dj and I will tell you callege is not for everyone and it is a shame to pay all that money for no reason. Money is not real and is unimportant. Do what makes you happy what good is a job that pays $100,000 a years if you hate your job and have no time for your loves, (music, family etc.) Do what makes you happy man!!!!!!!!!!! People will always listen to music and if you do it FOR THE LOVE the money will come as long as you work hard for it. You dont need to be rich just comfortable and without debt remember that.

I think that I will stay home have graduation and just focus on work.

Eventually, I will have enough money and I will be able purchse a very durable home recording studio and stuff.

I e-mail some people at that college and they said it all comes down to the people you meet and the quality of your sound.

So, I’m not going to go out handing out cassette tapes recorded on a 4 track.

Why not do both? Play shows on the weekend at frat houses and clubs, build up a fan base.
