Love help: What songs make you cry? - Help.com

What songs make you cry?

Or feel like crying.

I’m listening to “The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot” by Brand New right now. Ugh it’s so saaaaaad but it’s beautiful. I love it.

My favorite line:
“You are the smell before rain.
You are the blood in my veins.”

It must be that song the man outside the subway plays everyday on his harmonica. I don´t know what the creation is called, but it´s horrific. But I have to give him credits for playing it with such an enthusiasm, but I think he´s on drugs for jumping up and down everyday playing that crap, with his harmonica in one hand and the radio against his ear in the other hand. It sure is a sight for the eye, but kakafonic for the ears.

Beloved Wife by Natalie Merchant
It’s a song about a man who is contemplating suicide because his wife has died and there is nothing left to live for.
“would it be wrong if I should
surrender all the joy in my life
go with her tonight?”

Same. I love losing myself in a song and getting goosebumps and all that.

I love forgetting who I am and becoming who the song is talking about.

Music is my therapy.

Yes… Florence is so right on! Music is definitely provocative! I agree Leah… its a great therapy. I don’t think a day goes by when I am not listening to music for whatever mood I happen to be in. This is why I like a variety. Music brings up memories and feelings. Sound, (music in particular), can add to an experience the way visuals, scents and textures do. It can also make a movie more intense… music is one of the main things along with story line, cinematography and acting that can make the message in a film all the more powerful.

Some of the music on movie soundtracks that make me cry are…

“Cinema Paradiso” soundtrack (beautiful soundtrack, yet both myself and a friend of mine are really in tears whenever we hear it.)
Soundtrack to “Malena”
one of the songs on the soundtrack to “French Kiss” makes me feels some kind of nostalgia or sadness
Toy Story 2’s “When She Loved Me” - Sarah Mclaughlin
a song in the film “Philidelphia”

And then these I mentioned in a previous post about sad songs…
“Tears in Heaven” - Eric Clapton
“Time” - Alan Parson’s Project (I can’t hear it without crying! Yikes! Reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom pulled over the car and started crying… my grandpa had recently passed away. She explained to me the song for some reason brought her feelings to the surface.)
“Wind Beneath My Wings” - Bette Midler
“Goodbye” - Air Supply
“Candle in the Wind” - Elton John
“I’ll Be There” - Escape Club
“In the Arms of the Angels” - Sarah Mclaughlin

Goo Goo Dolls “Iris” or Goo Goo Dolls “Slide”. In the first song, when the line says “Yeah, you bleed just to know you’re alive”.

Or, from a video game soundtrack (yes, I know, dorky lol), Chrono Cross “The Girl Who Stole the Stars”. It’s just very sad music, no vocals though.

Oh! Here is another one that used to make me cry when I was a child. It was on Sesame Street in the 70s. My father loved this piece and would turn up the volume… I would always try and turn it down since it always sparked such a deep feeling of sadness in me. :( In combination with the video of the flower it somehow reminded me of life and death at that age and later on I thought it was appropriately used as a memoriam in response to the death of a cast memember…
