Sophie, you rock!! That is a great point. And/But maybe it would be possible to “calculate” and/or “create” these “best-of” lists only once every 24 hrs (and perhaps with a 12 hour offset, in order to spare the computers from too much work — like a post is made at 3 pm, and then the best replies are tallied every 24 hours at 3 am).

Also, perhaps getting people more motivated to vote for the responses would more quickly surface good results. Many people who post here seem to be in rather urgent crisis situations — and so getting the best replies out to them ASAP (within computational constraints) might be a very effective use of the voting system.

That would be good if they got voted for quickly.

you also cant make this site to elaborate or it takes to much processing everytime you make a reply or put a post up.

I can come up with a lot more improvements but to do them all will take the sever to long to cross refrence every thing.

I am shure that Jeff abandoned some projects on this site due to this.

would probably be tagged with something like “avoid” “pregnancy” or something like that. Of course we humans could also go in and add the tag “birth control” (or whatever) — it’s all good I guess.

I really like “your” idea, too — but what do you think about “my” idea to simply have a link to the best replies to each post right up near the post itself? I mean a link that displays the list after the user clicks on them — not just showing the replies (which might be distracting if someone would prefer to look at the replies as they happen (”sequentially”)

Databases are not that hard to work with even over the internet.

What I am talking about mostly is a link to the best answer within one post/thread — so basically the best answer to that question / problem / whatever.

I like Sophie’s idea, too — but what I’m getting at here is not a matter of surfing around or going somewhere else: I want to know the “best” answer to a question here and now (yes, that’s the way I am ;)…

Now I fully realize there is usually not only one “right” answer to any problem — and there could also be most sophisticated solutions to the complexity of life — but I am just simply proposing something simple (mainly because I love to KISS ;)

They can be listed by the number of votes or the user or the post they come from.

If there were a link right below the post to replies that are most often rated as “quotable”, then that might be something like a shortcut to “highly recommended” replies.

Is that better — or can you try to explain more clearly what you “don’t get”?
