Run you anti-virus and anti-spyware then, if you wish to renew anything.

Uninstall the old stuff and install anything you have downloaded, following any instructions that come with the downloads.

Your anti virus is for stopping virus.

Reply from thep /post/121745-#reply-3335711 lil_bit_shy.

I will try to explain a little bit more.

CCleaner :- Download it, install it. Let it run on your computer.
What it does :- Cleans the cookies from your browser, cleans your computer of other un-needed files. When you delete files with windows it does not actually delete the files, it just marks that space on your hard disc,to be over written, this takes up space on your hard disc and can leave pottentualy harmful programes on your computer. CCleaner actually wipes them from your computer.

Firewall :- Windows firewall, completely useless. A good firewall will scan every file that tries to insert itself on your computer. It will advise you if the file is contaminated with a virus etc. It will advise you what actions you should take, like allow this file, block this file, etc.
It also tells you if a program on your computer is trying to send information from your computer, to somewhere or some-one on the internet. This is often used by spyware, malware, sending your personal information, viruses and others. without your consent and often with out your knowledge.

Anti virus :- Stops and finds known and often unknown virus, on your computer. From being active on your computer.

Anti spyware :- Stops unscrupulous websites from tracking you on the internet, inserting malware, inserting virus, inserting trojans etc.

Using all of them, is needed to keep your computer clean and as safe as possible. They all do different things to help keep your computer safe.

A lot of people say ” It’s never happened to me.” The thing is, you will never know that for sure. They dont advertise the fact that they have been put on your computer.

Reply from Bluecat /post/121745-#reply-3333900 Yeah, from Comodo I’ve used BoClean, but didn’t really look at it too deeply.

Reply from R3B3L /post/121745-#reply-3333862 Yeah back a few years I had blazing connection and because I - then too - went commando with no software or firewalls, I had to reformat my computer every few days haha. But seriously I am using nothing and I have Ultra-Lite Highspeed which is maybe 2x dial up, and I’ve never had a single virus or hacker or whatnot. I don’t use P2P things though - just Bit Torrents [which I guess is P2P lol]

Reply from thep /post/121745-#reply-3333854 I am glad you have had no problems.

It’s the first time I have heared that a slow connection can stop this from happening. I have a very fast connection though.

Reply from R3B3L /post/121745-#reply-3333844 The slower your connection is, the less chance of getting hacked/viruses because it takes too long for them to get into your system :P Thus I have absolutely no protection but I’ve been doing fine for a very long time. I still follow safe online practices though.

Reply from Bluecat /post/121745-#reply-3333803 I have Comodo. It’s the best firewall I’ve used so far; free or non-free.

I also use Avast! and AVG.
