[Help] I heard a report about memory. Updates to this post /post/148031-i-heard-a-report-about-memory Sat, 05 Dec 2009 04:51:28 +0100 Reply from Anonymous /post/148031-i-heard-a-report-about-memory#reply-4808598 AYC is on to it. the bead concept is accurate, feelings and the other senses account for collecting memories that build on earlier ones, studies have been done on cellular memories suggest memories are acually stored in our cells.

Reply from super_lizard200 /post/148031-i-heard-a-report-about-memory#reply-4660690 the reason for what you read is that we train our brain to learn more about what we see than what we hear or …. in the absence of ability to see stuff we gotta train our other emotions so they that we can store more information in those formats.

Reply from ayc /post/148031-i-heard-a-report-about-memory#reply-3849872 i have been studying stuff like memories etc, they tend to work off concepts and emotions rather than straightforward images. where one is placed upon another.
to be honest the best explaination i have heard is an odd one. but imagine a beaded necklace. the string is the original thing, like a concept (i will use a door as an example) and the rest of the doors you encounter become the beads adding to the necklace, but being the same thing (a door). they are layerd onto the original thing.
they all have the same feelings and concepts associated to them, they are just slightly different in experience. emotions can mess that up though.
its so hard to explain. but your brain makes up alot of what you see, until you concentrate on something, apparently, because it already knows what those things are in concept.
weird and im not smart enough to make sense of it all sorry!

Reply from BrighterBlessing /post/148031-i-heard-a-report-about-memory#reply-3624798 That sounds like an interesting report. I have been struggling with memory lately and would like to figure it out. There was a time I could remember EVERYTHING. Now, not so much.

Anyway I think we all have a favored sense and you can what someone’s is by what they say. Like “I “see” what you’re saying” or I “hear” that or I had a “sense” - does that make sense. My Dad used to always say things and then say “Do you know what I mean” and it drove us crazy sometimes but when I heard this I understood that was just how he operated. He didn’t really always understand me because I was more of the Seeing type so I had to learn to adjust to his knowing and we learned to communicate and we each continued to remember in our own ways.

I read once that right-hand versus left-hand had something to do with the brain function/memory as well. But I can’t remember what all that was about.

Reply from logout /post/148031-i-heard-a-report-about-memory#reply-3597756 oh sorry i didn’t answer all the questions.

If you are sad when you wake up because of a sad dream, this is because your subconsious is active whilst dreaming. Not your ‘concious’.

But your subconcious still has an effect on your mind so you still feel sad.

Reply from logout /post/148031-i-heard-a-report-about-memory#reply-3597751 Dreams are just in our short term memory. Thats where the emotions are involved.

If we remember a dream a long time later…its because we have rehearsed it in one way or another.

Now i’m no expert by any means, but this is just my two cents.
That makes sense now that I think about it. Especially hearing about news. Usually there are no images to correlate. Also I do see sound as being a great memory tool, I can recollect songs that I have heard, obviously.
Blind people are whizzes at remembering things in the right order, scientists now find.

In the absence of vision, the world is experienced as sequences, explained neurobiologist Ehud Zohary of Hebrew University in Jerusalem. For instance, to identify otherwise indistinguishable objects, such as different brands of yogurt that vary only in their labeling, the blind typically place objects in arrangements of their own making and give mental tags for each of them, such as “the second item on the left.”
I just read that too! Kind of cool.
Photographic memory is just one way that a short term memory is processed into the long term memory.

There is in fact 3ways in which it can be rehersed into the long term memory. I remember studying it in psychology.

I think the 3 are visual, audio and rehersal.

So a blind person would probably just have two? Although i’m not sure. But i know for a fact that visual isnt the only way.
I see that playing into matters too. What about emotional memory? Sometimes I wake after dreaming. I won’t remember the dream, but I will remember the emotional tone. If it was particularly sad, I will be sad.

Maybe this is all more complex than I can fathom.
