[Help] Borderline Personality Disorder Updates to this post /post/150360-borderline-personality-disorder Thu, 21 Aug 2008 14:05:30 +0100 Reply from urine sane /post/150360-borderline-personality-disorder#reply-3636571 5% out of 100% is pretty rare. Full blown, true borderline is quite rarely diagnosed, however, like most mental disorders it works on a sliding scale of severity. its also a very co-morbid disorder, meaning that in most cases it presents with other disorders as well.

Reply from Anonymous /post/150360-borderline-personality-disorder#reply-3634504 On the subject of the last post, saying that borderline personality disorder is very rare is untrue, as i’ve read in a few reliable sources that it affects a relatively large proportion of the general population…if i remember correctly it was about 5%, may have been more or less , i can’t remmeber

Reply from urine sane /post/150360-borderline-personality-disorder#reply-3622565 uh, actually, borderline personality disorder is very serious. its among the top band disorders listed in the DSM4-the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental disorders that all psychilogists and psychiatrists use to diagnose mental disorder.

Borderline personality disorder is very rare however. sure you may have some of the criteria, but going off having “some” criteria you could probably diagnose yourself with every disorder ever.
this would need to be diagnosed by a professional and qualified psychologist.

Reply from cj_05 /post/150360-borderline-personality-disorder#reply-3621636 Well, its a pretty serious disorder I’ve only seen one person with it before but he was in a pretty bad way. Id be careful about self diagnosing psychiatric illnesses, you could probably find a “disorder” to fit just about anyone! Border line personality disorder seems to be a fairly recent phenomena as well, maybe a product of the emo generation?

Reply from metalrock /post/150360-borderline-personality-disorder#reply-3621623 Seriously un serious. Most people have 2-4 disorders, because the brain just is not made to be balanced perfectly. For example, if you are not Timid, Paranoid or compulsive, your almost certain to be obsessive (apparently).

the problem is that each disorder has certain criteria that needs to be met, and many of these traits eaither cross over all are present in the majority of people. dont worry about it.

infact, i think worrying about personality disorders is a personality disorder!
