[Help] Why are so many churches going into praise bands? Updates to this post /post/154153-why-are-so-many-churches-going-into Fri, 05 Sep 2008 02:21:37 +0100 Reply from Freaky kat /post/154153-why-are-so-many-churches-going-into#reply-3665147 hmmm…well thanks for letting me know. It’s hard to tell what regular ppl like to listen since I’m a organist. I don’t really care much about the religion part, more just the music. I will say (guiltily) that I don’t like paying for church.

Reply from SunnyInSanDiego /post/154153-why-are-so-many-churches-going-into#reply-3663462 i dont understand it either. it seems to me like people cant just stop with commercializing easter and christmas, now they have to commercialize every sunday mass as well. it seems like everythings centering itself on cash nowadays, even church! there should be an eleventh commandment; “Thou shalt not exploit the lord to make money”.

Reply from iamozy /post/154153-why-are-so-many-churches-going-into#reply-3663447 classicals are nice, but i sometimes think that they get rather dreary. i’m not religious, but i do go to church when i go with my family, and the some of the “joyous” classical church songs need to look up the definition of that adjective again. :)

(disclaimer: i am not a religious person and i don’t believe in god, but i make an appearance in a church from time to time depending on the faith of who i’m dating….)[/quote]sjpancer “everyone is a Hypocrite”Unless you are attending on a regular basis you really can’t know what is going on in church. Zack I understand where you are coming from basically you enjoy the classical music.  Try to look at it this way everyone worships differently so we all listen to different music.  I myself enjoy all kinds of music.  As far as organ music I think it is very beautiful but most kids at our church wouldn’t enjoy that at all.  To reach the people churches have to change by having variety.  Our church has all different kinds of music from piano to southern gospel to contemporary.Remember Christ came to where the people where.  I do however think we should be very careful not to take away from our Lord and Savior.

Reply from X_GC_X /post/154153-why-are-so-many-churches-going-into#reply-3662883 I suppose it also depends on the general atmosphere of the church as well, and the age group of the sort of people who go there, if there’s much interest in that and, most importantly, if there’s a classical option nearby.

I still get the image of a old man dressing up in nike trainers and a backwards cap trying to be ‘hip’ and ‘cool’ to get people to like him when I see this idea.

Reply from Freaky kat /post/154153-why-are-so-many-churches-going-into#reply-3662866 they do it sometimes. one of our local churches that was built in the 1930’s in town just threw out a 800,000$ organ for a praise band. I’m not exaggerating, they really thought the classical music was a waist of time. I’m a organist and its hard to deal with such things if I want to have this for a job someday when I grow up.

Reply from X_GC_X /post/154153-why-are-so-many-churches-going-into#reply-3662858 I haven’t been to Church in years and I’m not religious, but I still think that they should stick to the classicals. I can understand it fitting into the new buildings which are purposefully made to be modern and good for that sort of thing, but I couldn’t for example imagine see a band playing in our Abbey, one of the oldest buildings in England.
