Your on your own path. I personally believe and have seem miracles happen with excellent nutrition! Try eating more superfoods (ie blueberries, brocolli…), organic (as much as you can afford it), whole foods (not cooked), avoid preservatives, additives, artificial anything (the body cannot process or eliminate it all the time).

A friend of mine ran a nursing home for years. Patients would come in w/dementia or alzheimer’s and within usually about two weeks they would be sharing thoughts and having opinions. Some of them recovered all together and went home! Unfortunately some of the ones who went home ended up going down hill again once they where home.

Reply from amy /post/154792-im-living-someone-elses-life-again#reply-3673072 It is more the uncanniness of it all . She looks more than me than my mother Got married at the same age. Had two kids (same as me) Got divorced after 16 years ( i was married 17 years) Kids left her, mine is halfway there. Then she met a new partner and lost him same as me. Weird. I tell you !!But maybe it is just coincidence.

Reply from Sans /post/154792-im-living-someone-elses-life-again#reply-3670252 Just peering out from under my rock, erm, giant magnet.

Alzheimers is frightening, but not inevitable just because you have a relative with it. Besides, with advances in genetics and the ongoing research on reverse engineering the human brain, it’s likely to be cured by the time you were of the usual age of onset.

Reply from theresape /post/154792-im-living-someone-elses-life-again#reply-3670124 Then go to a genetics counselor, by all means. LOTS of us have to write things down and start getting confused about things in our 40s (or 30s or 20s!), and you may just NOTICE it more because you are watching for signals. But I don’t want to give you false reassurance. See what a professional says. As scary as that may be, the reassurance will help you if the news is GOOD, and if the news is BAD–well, it can give you incentive to seek advice on staving off the symptoms.
You can train your brain for this, try to excersize it, by doing memory games.
Crossword puzzles and Scrabble are said to be high on the list of brain-exercisers!

I am 43 and am allready at the stage of having to write lists down for everything I need to remember and sometimes not even understanding my own lists or writings. I was writing a novel but I got lost somewhere and cant even remember things that is common knowledge in our family.

Thanks for the wishes.

Reply from theresape /post/154792-im-living-someone-elses-life-again#reply-3670088 I don’t think you should assume that because your have similar life paths you also have similar pathology. I think that is self-defeating, actually–sometimes you can anticipate something so much you make it happen, or make yourself think it has happened.

Are you genetically related to this woman? If you are, I would suggest you see a genetic counselor and ask what they can tell you about the possibilities of a linkage. If the possibilities are slight, you will give yourself one less thing to worry about. And if there is a strong linkage, you can ask for advice about whether there are any actions you can take to decrease the likelihood of Alzheimer’s.

You don’t say how old you are, but unless you are very close to her in age you should be heartened by the knowledge that there are massive amounts of Alzheimer’s research going on in the world. Who knows? By the time you reach your middle years, there might be excellent prevention and treatment programs available.

My good wishes are with you.
