[Help] Being vegetarian can be difficult. Updates to this post /post/158836-being-vegetarian-can-be-difficult Sun, 07 Sep 2008 20:22:45 +0100 Reply from LoveYourLife /post/158836-being-vegetarian-can-be-difficult#reply-3769847 aw I’m sorry you’re going through this. I know how it feels :)
In the end, you just have to sort of put on a suit of armor and try to ignore the judging that our families do so well. Just remember, they are only reacting to this because it is different for them and they choose to see the bad in it. No matter what, stand for what you believe. At times you may think it’s not worth it and you’d rather just get along w/ your family, but you have every right to be vegetarian should you wish. Good luck and message me if you need some more help :)

Reply from intangiblemissxo /post/158836-being-vegetarian-can-be-difficult#reply-3716094 I’ve been a vegetarian for…a long time and it can be difficult when it’s constantly an issue. (I spent a month in Uzbekistan, where it’s basically unheard of. At every meal I had to explain that I wasn’t ill or trying to be rude.) Learn to cook some tasty meat-free dishes and offer to make them for your family. Vegetarian chili usually goes over really well with my meat-eating friends. Make it with Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP, it’s a soy-based thing that roughly mimics the texture of ground beef and doesn’t have an obtrusive flavor at all) and plenty of beans and veggies (I like black beans and kidney beans together) and no-one will be able to tell the difference. Also try lentil and barley stew. A good recipe is here: http://www.recipezaar.com/207305. It’s really simple and my whole family loves it.

If nothing else, just ignore them. Don’t get a fight about it, just do what you need to do. Your mom should be glad she doesn’t have to buy meat for you anymore. Stuff is expensive.

Good luck. :) I’m rooting for you.
