[Help] I've been looking into Goth culture. Updates to this post /post/159875-ive-been-looking-into-goth-c Thu, 21 Aug 2008 14:02:53 +0100 Reply from VKei /post/159875-ive-been-looking-into-goth-c#reply-3727080 Gothic isn’t so much a way of being than it is a way of thinking. Just look at the myriad of subcultures that make up goth. You’ve got the more “main stream” kind, the vintage goths, the cyber goths, the victorian goths…

When I think gothic, I think more of a freedom attained by those who understand how to both be themselves, and how to accept their own mortality. Most of the world spends their years trying to turn back clocks and extend themselves beyond their years. I’ve not known many people of the goth mentality to spend hours agonizing over the end of all things.

So someday we’re all going to die. So what? Live in the now. Accept your fate.

The fact that you don’t pidgeonhole easily is only more proof that as much as you “desire” to be a part of the gothic “scene,” you’re really already a part of it.

Just don’t be afraid to dress the part ^.^

And people who would look past the clothes, or make-up, or even lifestyle choice and look at who you are rather than what.

Reply from LostNowhere /post/159875-ive-been-looking-into-goth-c#reply-3726831 Just the people I’m surrounded by would be a little shocked. Plus don’t agree with it. I just feel like it symbolizes myself recently.

Reply from Queen of Lost Vampyr /post/159875-ive-been-looking-into-goth-c#reply-3726824 Could you possibly explain the situation a little more?

If it’s someone close, they should know that you’re still the same person, only being the real you, and should be able to accept that, even if they don’t like it.

I am into dark things and I just feel like it’s the true me and should be brought to the light in a non-satanistic crybaby way.

It’s hard to explain. But it’s who I am.[/quote]

Then be your unique self, I think that’s always best. If it’s the real you, then let everybody see it, and if it bothers them…whatever, they’re not worth your time anyway.

Reply from Queen of Lost Vampyr /post/159875-ive-been-looking-into-goth-c#reply-3726797 I suggest you just live however you want, act how you want, be how you want without trying to fit into one stereotype. Trust me, it’s better that way.
