Reply from Nante /post/161065-cbs-is-going-to-buy-cnet#reply-5119784
what a great retrospective this is. A year ago we were trying to assure each other that everything was going to be better, and what did we get? An overworked admin who passed his job off to a donothing admin who broke everything about the site we enjoyed. Way to be, CBS, way to be.
Oh how we were fooled…

Reply from most-wanted-websites /post/161065-cbs-is-going-to-buy-cnet#reply-3805167 I agree that the current setup of help.com is probably more of a headache than anything else for CBS.

I have setup http://help-find.org/chart to function without any “outside” moderation whatsoever (note, however, that each participant is able to exclude other/annoying participants from the network/s they manage).

Reply from ɐʇɐɯɹǝɟ.Suc /post/161065-cbs-is-going-to-buy-cnet#reply-3763178 I agree that this site isn’t as devoted to as the other sites by cnet, but I mean it is still here. And we have admins and volunteer mods. I think most people like cbs would take it even less seriously.

Reply from Fizz /post/161065-cbs-is-going-to-buy-cnet#reply-3763096
Where Help.com is concerned this can be good.

This site cant make up what it is trying to be, badly mannaged and not taken seriously by cnet at all.

Under new ownership the site may get a more possitive development and management.
CBS isn’t much better where it comes to managing website communities. I was a part of a prior CBS community on their own website, instead of fixing the problems with trolls, they closed the community, the regular users weren’t taken into consideration, it’s not about loyalty, it’s about money. If it cost them more money to develop and manage then they are profiting from it, then it’s bye bye Help.

Reply from gimli /post/161065-cbs-is-going-to-buy-cnet#reply-3740919 My fear is that help.com will cease to exist. I think that this site probably does not generate much revenue (how many of us click on the banner ads?) and so CBS is going to probably consider it a waste of whatever resources are currently being devoted to it. That may also be why we don’t have professional moderators, as well. I bet that CNET would be losing money if they paid for someone to have it as their full time project.

In any event, time will tell.

Reply from ►Shizuko-Sophie◄ /post/161065-cbs-is-going-to-buy-cnet#reply-3740529
OR may be neglected more even than now?
Well even if it is closed and the name sold…the new owners may consider it as a help site not a mediocre chat/forum site.

That could be the best thing for this site.

Get it under good moderation with moderators that work as a team to keep this site along the lines of its fundimental philosopy and not allow this site to solowly degrade like it is doing now.
