Reply from nothx /post/190543-#reply-4187407 I guess at that point it is a matter of interpretation. I’m sorry you had such a negative experience. And truth is everyone, whether it be the church or the modern day world, they all have their times of blinding people.
All I said in my post was that I found some truths in some of the things they say and some of the things the bible says. I’m not spouting that I believe it all. I’m not walking around promoting anything. But I found truth in it, as well as modern science and other such things. That is all I said. No room for argument. So please avoid starting one.

Reply from courtybubble /post/190543-#reply-4186482 oh whoops, i scrolled too fast haha.

and no, not arrogant, but i do have the advantage of having lived my life in and out of the church. so i see how blinded people are by the church, and the atrocious things they will do, say and think about people even in thier own families because of some person standing in a pulpit screaming at them or a book written thousands of years ago with not one ounce of relativity to modern day life.
maybe i am arrogant, but then, i dont really care.

First of all, your post is still quoted above by me. Second of all, this comment -
hmm well i notice my reply was removed, guess people cant handle the truth.
seems very arrogant. I wasn’t one of them, but maybe other people pointed the last post out for a reason?

Many of my fellow atheists think that moderates pose a threat to rational thinking despite their more lenient standpoint however I think its a good thing. I would be curious to see what proofs were given to you, and I wont lie… I am a little skeptical but I am skeptical of all new things i hear, If you had any examples I could look up I’d be interested to see em. Im actually in the process, slow as it is, of trying to read the bible so… Im kinda trying to understand religion a bit and become more knowledgeable on christianity as its always been an interesting subject to me given that I have fundamentalist relatives. But yeah, if you have any links or wanna tell about these scientific verifications im very interested! :)
Sure I’ll scoop some things up for you as soon as I get the chance. :)

thats because when youre vunerable is when youre most open to being brainwashed darling.

ive also been to talks where things from the bible have been proven to be absolutely impossible to have ever happened, and where the things the bible mentions on the sly, such as the incest, slavery and abuse that happened in biblical times are highlighted.
its all just a matter of perspective, and people choose which way they want to see it.
nothing is false or true. its just what you think is real.
Perhaps I haven’t made myself clear. Or maybe I have and you should read what I said again.
I’m not sure if you are trying to tell me that I have been brainwashed or what, but simply because I’ve began to change my way of thinking does not mean I’ve been brainwashed.
I’m a very analytical person. It’s just who I am. Who I have always been. I don’t take that comment very nicely. Although there is truth in what you said, about that would be a vulnerable time, it was simply the time I started looking. NOT the time I started believing.

My lowest point is where I started to do it too.
Everybody has to believe in Something, James; and a lot of people feel threatened by anything that (perceptually) opposes their belief. Science and Religion; there was a time when people like Galileo had a wonderful time with contemporary Christians.Islam, Judiasm and Christianity are all offshoots from the same religion, and they seem hell-bent on bloodletting each other.I’m with you - I have no doubts in my faith. But go easy on the folks on either side of the fence that go all rabid. They’re scared they’re wrong.
I’m not saying go out with pitchforks and torches and raid the scientists or religious folks. I’m saying maybe try testing what you know. Get both sides. All sides. It’s facinating. And I think in the end everyone can benifit in some way, shape or form. Maybe your views stay the same. I don’t know. But what I do know is that there are a lot of people out there that haven’t tested the waters. And with a free mind and non-judgemental mindset it’s a world full of surprises.

Reply from AmandaLynn /post/190543-#reply-4122048 James - im glad your going on with this study. Keep it up. God gave us a mind and reasoning skills for a reason. Free will is beautiful - especially when we use it to find the truth. Keep searching, keep discovering, keep asking, and keep finding.
