yeah, I kinda had the same problem, but you just have to let it go and try to meet some new people. nothing you can really do about it. I actually changed my attitude on that a lot after a melodramatic breakup, but that’s besides the point. all you can really do is try to force it. even if it feels like a lie, analysis always made me feel kinda “superior” in a way, and I guess I was just covering up for insecurities. that might not be you, but you definitely need to open up a little more, especially if you want more than just friendship with someone.

well, to tell the truth you are really gonna have a hard time if you go out looking for love, you kinda just have to let it come to you. you kinda sound like me from a few months back, but I met this amazing girl over the summer, and it was just out of the blue. I never knew her before and we just clicked.
feeling lonely is a bummer too, but maybe you should try to get closer to your friends, and make them more than just “average” friends. if they aren’t “good” friends I can see why you might be feeling kind of down. but hey, it doesn’t sound like you’re 60 and at the end of your romantic lifespan, so just chill out and keep an eye open for the potential around you. if anything, college has a lot more people and makes it really easy to meet girls and the like, so don’t stress too much

(dark ambient, dreamlike and funeral doom metal and everything in between - just checking what’s on my ipod now that’s sort of down/depressive) Shape of Despair, Brighter Death Now, A Bleeding Star, Nortt, Cult of Luna, Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, Year of No Light, Jaäportit, Sirenia, Betray-Ed, Envy, Neurosis, The Dead Hours, Ad Semet Ipsum, Muhmood, Aythis, Tumor Necrosis Factor, Russian Circles, Old Man Gloom, Karjalan Sissit, Burzum, Slumber, Moonspell, Coph Nia, Sunn O))) (don’t you love artists that take nice names, mostly japanese/chinese traditional music and the usual mix of melodic power metal/post-rock/indie folk/ska/bossa nova/classic rock etc) I’d say look into some martial industrial, dark ambient, doom death, athmospheric metal or indie folk singer-songwriters!

um all i can offer is maybe a few songs by Avenged sevenfold and perhaps some thrice, you’ll just have to look through their stuff though
Identity crisis by thrice has a good amount of punk/screamo feel and some sick guitar, artist in the ambulance is really good and has some heavy stuff, but is more hopeful than depressing, and “illusion of safety” has a screamo heavy feel with some depressing stuff too.
the elements eps and vheissu aren’t what you’re looking for, and as far as avenged sevenfold goes, you’ll have to do that on your own
