Hey everyone, I just wanted to thank you all for your input into my situation. I spoke with my family and they completely understand, and are even wholeheartedly supportive of me. They were pretty shocked that I stayed in a school I hated just to please them, and told me if it didn’t make me happy, I should have been honest from the start. This week, I’m starting the transfer process to Hunter College [a CUNY school, but also the one my mother graduated from]. Hopefully, I’ll be much happier and a lot less broke there =). Wish me luck! You missed the part where I said if I transfer to another school, the dean will erase the debt. So, yeah…

I didn’t ask for you to dictate my choice, I asked for input on the situation. What do you THINK I should do and why, not tell me what to do and I’ll follow like a mindless sheep.

To everyone one else, thank you for helping. I’m going to try talking to my family about it -again. I will most likely end up choosing option two as everyone said because I really can’t find many reasons for me to stay at NYU.

I would say if you’ll be that unhappy than transfer. Think about your future and what you’ll want to say that you did in this situation.

My education is important. The school I get it through may be important too, but less important.
My family may get disappointed at first, but they will realize the above.

But I will never feel free, having a large debt.

I would see the offer from the Dean as a gift from heaven - even if I got other debts, it would reduce the repayment time by several years.

The distance from your Grandma is another thing. But you can travel a lot for 51K!

I do not agree with this statement because no matter what your family will proud of you, you can easily do one thing, go to another college for 1 year and then get transferred back!

Once you are past school age, the opportunities you have now will all but disappear. Sure you can return as a mature age student, but it probably wont be free, and the choices limited.

1) No matter what, make sure you finish.

2) I don’t think with the economy in the shape it is in that I would accrue any additional debt. I can’t tell you what to do. You have to make the decision for yourself, but I think it would be important to realize that the unemployment rate is at a high of 6%. Depending on which types of jobs you will be qualified for upon completing college, you might not be able to find a suitable job right out of college. High debt + no/low paying job = bad situation. I hope this advice helps you and I hope that regardless of which choice you make everything turns out all right for you.
