yeah it’s Citrus College Baby!!! I love it here. so cheap! but also realize i have to pay that much for each unit i have so if a class is 4 units i pay $80 for one class while others could be 3 or even 1. that’s why i love it.

The Citrus College program sounds great, I’ll look into it more when I can, but are credit hour the same thing as unit? If it’s really $20/unit then it’s really great, cause I can’t see myself affording tuition of up about $70/unit or more… not without taking loans and I’d rather work to get a budget.

I really don’t know the difference between the credit hour and unit thing. but one of my major classes is about 4 units. it would be great to see someone from sweden!

Some are very, very good, others on the other hand are really, really bad. The two schools i know that have good programs, so i’ve heard, are Pasadena City College and Citrus College. Personally i would choose Citrus College, only because PCC has too many students and Citrus focuses on you and your goals, unlike PCC which only wants your money. I spent some good time in both places so i know. Citrus would be the way to go. It’s also cheaper unit wise, we just pay $20 per unit, i think they pay like $26 or something. oh and also note that if you want to go to a University there are dorms available, but most people in the US don’t go to a university right out of High School because it’s too much money. Community Colleges like PCC and Citrus don’t have dorms. if you still want to be a film critic i would go into the “Acting for the Camera,” program only because you have to know what you are talking about. otherwise you will be considered a hypocrite and no one likes that i’m sure.

Both of my roommates did this and many of my middle eastern friends did as well. Living on campus the first year (in addition to being required at many schools) will give you the chance to meet someone to move off campus with and time to look into places you would like to live off campus.

The reason I can’t study that here is that the schools that offer acting programmes and such enroll very few students and therefore the competition is hard… :S
Singing Rose, do you know of any programmes like this? I’d also like to become a film critic but I don’t know yet exactly what I’ll study.. :P

When I get to the point of looking for housing I’ll definitely talk to the main office at my future school… but if that doesn’t work out I’ll consider off campus housing + room mates… anything to reduce the costs… :)

Anyways, yes housing is going to be a bit difficult. Personally i would not want to just go and grab a roommate and split the cost because of your money issue. I would go to the Main office at the school and plea a case about how you are on your own and that you have no money and if there is anything available for an international student for housing. Usually there is, but it all depends on the college, usually when you apply it asks if you are international and need housing or not. So, what are you planning to study?

Last year I was paying about $800 a month for food, housing, electric, etc on campus. This year I live off campus and pay about $600 a month. It is also way cheaper to have a roommate to split the cost with (I have 2). The price you will pay for housing depends upon what area you are wanting to study in though. I live in the midwest where things are cheaper. If you are wanting to study near the coast, expect to pay more.

Thanks for all of your help, I never really understood the credit/unit things before but you’ve all enlightened me a bit. :) I will definitely start saving!

But I’m still wondering about a couple things; since I’m going to be an international student I have to live on/off campus. What alternative is the cheapest? And are there any other housing alternatives for me that would help reduce the costs?

The College I am going to is in Southern California near LA. I study Performing arts the cost of the college is not per year. It’s per unit. One of my classes is about 4 units while others are 1 unit. it’s $20 per unit. so i pay about $300 per semester. START SAVING!!! ask for money and save most of it. Get a different account with your bank put at least 30% of your earnings from your job into it. It will help you so much! Last year i went to Sweden. I loved it!
