Reply from Srinh /post/214892-quote-yourself#reply-4552632 Here’s my personal quote. And it touches upon all aspects of life & could be a great legal reform during Obama’s presidency, that could be emulated , globally.

“Ironic. The following is needed to USA Visa: scheduled interview, fees, consulate interview, immunizations, sponsor, etc.
BUT, anyone with working ovaries and testicles can “team-up” to have kids?

Is political terrorism really worse then genetic terrorism?

Please, while we are capping the national deficit, can we also consider yearly birthrates? Let’s think of the future.”

Reply from ~Shie~ /post/214892-quote-yourself#reply-4456590 i have two replies actually that i like…

the first one is when i got booted and saw all the love from everyone and it actually brought tears to my eyes..
# (4 votes) I miss my Lil_Bit!

to all my friends here at help.com… to those who have replied to this post.. i just want to say thank you… through out my banning.. i was so over whelmed with joy at the part of… all the emails that i received.. all the knowledge of what was going on here.. while i couldnt get back on.. all the love that was pouring out from you guys wanting me back.. it took me a longggggggggggg time to read all those emails.. hehehe.. but i did.. and i hope i responded back to everyone..

as i sat here.. with all this love floating around me.. i was truly amazed at how many people care about me.. always thinking.. im me.. no one special.. and then.. i come here and i have just read every single one of your comments… yes.. everyone… (wow.. this post is long.. lol) and i actually have tears falling from my eyes.. from reading all the love and feeling it in each and every word that you all have written.. i want to say thank you.. you are all soooo very dear to me.. and have shown me.. what a family is really all about.. something i have never had before..

as for my actions… i stood up for what was right.. something that i strongly believed in.. fairness.. something i never had in life.. and now that im older.. its something that i believe in.. something i have always taught my kids.. and to see someone else being torn down by anyone.. makes me a bit upset.. i dont care who they are.. there is no need for it.. and it sickens me to see that there are people in this world who still do that today.. i was not personally being attacked.. and yes.. maybe i over reacted a bit.. but before i took the actions that i took.. i went the right route of the situation.. i took the right steps.. and nothing was getting done… so i took the matter into my own hands.. trying to get anyone to listen and see what was going on.. this is a help site.. for crying out loud.. not a tear someone down site.. and yes.. some of us.. such as myself have had plenty of time to move on from what has taken us down in the past.. but there are still people out there who cant laugh at their situation.. people who really do need the help.. not the criticism… so maybe i lost it.. but if i had to stand up for someone again.. i have to say.. i would do it again.. because i believe in fairness… i believe in helping to protect those in need.. those who are helpless in their own situations.. so yes.. i would absolutely do it again..

i also have to say.. i now know who my true friends are… i know who truly care for the causes that i believe in.. and im here to state.. IM NOT GOING ANYWHERE… i belong here… as well as all my friends.. and if i have to flag anyone.. over and over until the mods get sick and tired of the reports.. and finally do something.. then that is what i will do… but bet your bottom dollar.. im here to make you guys laugh.. and help you with all your issues that i can help you with.. this is my home away from home… and i refuse to move out… many hugs to all of my friends… love you always… and thank you again… shie… (tammy)

Traditionally (in vampire lore, which was around long before Dracula) you had to leave the stake in until daylight. Dracula didn’t turn to ash, they buried him, I think. (Don’t quote me on that one.) Oh, and more commonly it’s ashes, not dust. And the reason they turned to dust, usually was because they were so old and that would be the stage of decomp that they would have been at had they died a natural death.

And don’t diss Twilight.

Adults are not allowed to hurt children. Not even your parents. If someone is hurting you, tell someone. If people don’t believe you at first, keep telling more people until someone believes you. The answer is NOT to hurt yourself. Does your school have a guidence councilor or a nurse? If it does, go to one right now and tell them you’re contemplating suicide, and if your school doesn’t have one, go to your principal or a teacher you like, because teachers by law are obligated to report to the proper authorities if they believe a child is being abused. They aren’t liars. They will help you.
Reply from Sans /post/214892-quote-yourself#reply-4454841 That was great Enigma.

When people want to argue religion I’m sometimes irritated because it’s the same argument over and over. Here’s a reply I gave awhile back.
These are only my humble opinions.

I have different views about God than most. I do not believe he actively intervenes in the world. But I do believe God is real. I grew up in the Christian faith and am still nominally a Christian. I acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God. But I don’t believe in hell (except of our own making here on earth). And I don’t believe in religion as an institution.

Someone catches a glimpse of truth and convinces others. Then as the followers grow he/she forms a governing structure to take care of the group’s practical needs. He/she appoints leaders. Inevitably some of them are seduced by power; they dirty their hands with money. They solidify their authority and impose rules and imperatives, using guilt to control the followers. At some point the leader or leaders declare that their version of truth is the only one, and that all other groups are spiritual enemies. Finally political leaders align themselves with the religious leaders, trading money for minds. The followers are then available not only for spreading their religion, but also the boundaries and influence of their country. **Think crusades, jihads, colonialism.**

Politics and religion go hand in hand. They are even a part of evolution in that they ensure the survival of the fittest.

The fallacy of religion is that any one individual or group of individuals can see truth as a whole. A dog sees in black and white. It’s visual experience could be mapped on a luminance scale. But is that the definition of light? Humans see in color. We can separate light with a prism and see a rainbow. But is a rainbow the definition of light? What about infrared and ultraviolet? An old debate in science is whether light takes the form of waves or of a stream of particles. It behaves as both. But the scientists have not yet gone to war over it.

God is as great as your search for him/her. No more, no less. That can mean a weak, impotent caricature of an old man in a beard (or nothing at all), or an immense force of life that buoys a person through the worst of circumstances.
And yes, he allows these horrific things to happen for the greater good, so that all men will seek him.
This is rationalization. By that logic a caring parent would intentionally injure his or her children in order to bond with them during recovery.
But God isn’t real. Maybe that doesn’t matter to some, but to me it’s a deal breaker.
I would never expect anyone to believe something that wasn’t real to them. The image of God as it has been presented to you is limited. Any image of God is limited. Perhaps there is something inside of you, that more closely resembles your idea of what God should be, that you could look into.
this is the most rediculis thing ive heard in quite some time! god has done nothing for any of you, and you blindly alige yourself to him! it makes me sick to think of what the world has come to! sick!
Often people’s adherence to God is founded on fear, but not always. Has God reached down with a hand and intervened in anyone’s life on this post? Maybe not in the way you mean, maybe God hasn’t “done” anything in your eyes. But when a person finds peace and joy in their beliefs, to them something approaching the miraculous has been done. In their reality God is very real and has reached down in a personal way. Others may think of God as merely an unexplained force in the universe. Yes and no. But whether personal and caring, or impersonal and ultimately measurable, how one looks at God will determine whether divine influence is life-changing or just a curiosity.

If you stand against ocean waves they batter you. Or you can ride them.
How can accepting God reduce the need for doctors and medicine and lawyers and whatever else you’ve mentioned. I don’t get it…
It doesn’t. I do not believe that physical miracles take place. If what appears to be miracle does happen (and I’ve never seen one) I think it is only outside the bounds of known science, not beyond the laws of the universe. There are people who “find God” and suddenly no longer need therapy and anti-depressants. There are also people who come to the same place by discovering running, rock climbing, martial arts, or gardening. The mind is a powerful thing. Positive thinking and social interaction can change brain chemistry for the better.
2008-10-30 06:17:59 on This is important, what is your definition of tolerance?

Tolerance to me would mean a respect for others, a lack of judgment and the ability to look at one’s self honestly in order to understand another better. I believe in the thought that we should attempt to take a walk in anothers shoes. It’s an appreciation of the diversity which makes this world such a wonderful and colorful place to be.

I’ve written on this topic before and don’t know whether I have posted this before or not but I believe it applies;

I tend to liken the human race to snowflakes. You will never find two snowflakes that are identical, each has it’s own unique qualities that set it apart from the rest. But they are all snowflakes, they are all born pure and perfect in their own right. The environment may change the dynamic of the snowflake once it falls, hence conditioning or the “nature vs nurture” debate. But what a pretty picture those individual flakes make together, a blanket that covers the earth, the trees. Beautiful not only in their diversity and individuality but also as a part of a bigger picture ~together~.

****************************************

Another favourite would be the directions I gave to my house,

Cross the border into Canada (don’t bring any weapons, they don’t like that much), turn right and drive for days to Ontario and ask for Dave. (Everyone in Canada knows Dave so he shouldn’t be hard to track down.) He’s coming too so he can guide you the rest of the way here! Dress warm, I live in an igloo :D

Not at all. I had in mind serious ones, but funny ones are just as good if not better.
I agree with some of what Chauncy said, but disagree with the statement, “Life has no meaning.”

Life does have meaning, but for most of us it can’t be boiled down to a few words. The meaning is found in experiences that take you beyond who you thought you were.. hardships that are overcome, unexpected joys, beauty in the world, the resilience of good friends. Even if one looks at life as temporary, the better part of a century, it can have great meaning and fulfillment. My children, my extended family, my neighbors, the well being of my community.. these things provide meaning. The ever-present affection of my pets (and I have a variety) is by itself a compelling argument to me for the connectedness of all life.

No one sees all the truth, but the search for it is itself noble.

There are any number of things in your life that could change for the better tomorrow, and it would radically change your attitude. You could fall in love, you could make a new friend, you could stub your toe on a huge diamond (okay maybe not), but your finances could rebound, you could take up a new art or hobby. The reason people get up each day and do the mundane but necessary things they have to do to survive, is because they believe things can get better. Whether or not things will get better is up to the perseverance of the person and (honestly) circumstances. But that is why we get up in the morning. That’s why we don’t give up.

These aren’t lies we tell ourselves, it’s both what we hope is true and what we need to hear. Sometimes encouragement is nothing more than it’s own reward, a temporary good feeling, and other times it’s the catalyst we need to change what we can.

You’ve been knocked down. So what are you going to do about it? (I’m asking this to myself as well as to you.) Are you going to sit there and have a pity party and whine about what a crappy hand of cards life has dealt you? Or are you going to have the guts to get of your *** and try again? To keep trying until you win? Your choice.
