[Help] I'm engaged to a firefighter and I know the statistics for emergency response marriages. Updates to this post /post/216017-im-engaged-to-a-firefighter Mon, 30 Nov 2009 00:07:26 +0100 Reply from BBseben /post/216017-im-engaged-to-a-firefighter#reply-5179212 Thank you so much for posting this. My husband is just begining this process of being a career paramedic/firefighter. I have been googling the statistics and I am freaked. I appreciate that comment… “screw the statistics”
Thanks much… any advice to couples just going into this?

-Thanks,

Reply from meagankolthof /post/216017-im-engaged-to-a-firefighter#reply-4671520 Im engaged to a man who is a firefighter and correctional officer!! I think the life is great!! I have been with him for 4 years and a year is how long he has been on it does get hard sometimes but that makes you want to support them even more!! Its not always as hard as people make it to think… Their job is hard and they just want to come home to a family that is loving and supporting and not getting on their case about how much they are gone… I know I get upset sometimes because he is gone for 4 hours but that is what makes them our heros and want to support them even more!! When they come home and tell you the stories about the lives they saved it just makes your heart melt and forget about what you were mad at in the beginging… and always remember they will stay after to talk about it with the boys!!! If you dont support them and their job then its gunna be one hard relationship!!! Live life a day at a time or it won’t turn out how you would want it!

Reply from veg_head /post/216017-im-engaged-to-a-firefighter#reply-4469113 I can’t say anything from experience on this one, but I doubt things will change once you’re married. If you can’t take it now you may want to put the wedding off until you’re sure you’re up to it.

Reply from Nyxotic /post/216017-im-engaged-to-a-firefighter#reply-4469035 If you’re engaged to him, shouldn’t you have spend enough time with him to know by now how much time he spends away and how much his job affects his personal life via stress and trauma? If you haven’t experienced any of these things, then you should probably wait to marry him until you have because no one else can predict how his job will affect your marriage. Every firefighter responds to the extreme conditions of his job somewhat differently.
