The school is “segregating” people on the basis of grade level for the protection of the middle schoolers, or to spare the high schoolers annoyance, or both. Apparently there was a problem with the two school groups sitting together. The school wants to avoid liability. My guess is that the action was precipitated by parental complaints.

To show that you were discriminated against would really be a stretch. And, if you did have the money to initiate a lawsuit, you would be a grandparent before the case was resolved!
