After that it is winter and no one could survive there. Pilots in the air force in there to fly the scientists around and bring more supplies. I know this because my dad is one of the pilots who goes there.

Reply from Matt... /post/222386-does-anyone-live-in-antarctica#reply-4545148 As Ikari said, there are a number of scientific bases down there with hundreds of scientists. During the Antarctic winter the number decreases as many return home, but some stay through year-round.

There are no non-scientific towns or human populations however. The Antarctic Treaty also prevents claim or establishment of military bases by any country.
