Optimizing a website, is not going to do a lot of good, everyone wants their website to be first in the listings of each search engine.
Out of all of the billions of webpages in the world. Only one will make it to the number one spot in each of the catorgories.
Only ten or twenty will make it to the first page.

Optimization is a myth and pipe dream, if the search engines keep there ranking system, secret. Then how is it you know how they rank each of these pages?
It is only by the popularity and word of mouth, that realy puts a website at the very top.
It is the users of the website that do this, if the website is good enough. It is they that make the popular websites. Your users are the most important part of a successful website.
The things you talk about, are things not to worry to much about. They are completely out of your hands.
I hope this is helpfull to you. Just make very good websites, again the users decide what constitutes a good website.
