[Help] It's the End of the Ad as We Know It! Updates to this post /post/234889-its-the-end-of-the-ad-as-we Tue, 01 Dec 2009 10:45:26 +0100 Reply from businessstartupsmall /post/234889-its-the-end-of-the-ad-as-we#reply-4689164
Well they have that in television too.
yes — but TV is also known as “mainstream media” (MSM): there are far fewer “channels”. On the Internet, each domain — indeed each website is it’s own channel: and just like “shoes were MADE FOR walking”, the internet was MADE FOR switching — so anything that’s irrelevant doesn’t stick. OTOH, on TV, people are expected to swallow whatever is streamed in their general direction. :S

Reply from businessstartupsmall /post/234889-its-the-end-of-the-ad-as-we#reply-4685112 sorry my mind was occupied (happens a lot ;)…

On the web, there is no reason for ads to slopped on to the other content.

.COM *is* ads (.COM stands for “commercial”)

So if you want to see an ad, just go to the brand-name + .COM

If you don’t want to see the ad, then don’t go there.

Conversely, “banner blindness” is the way of the internet — irrelevant junk does not have much impact.

The only thing that matters online is: Is the information relevant to my question (or not)? Whether someone CALLS IT an “advertisement” is totally meaningless.
