[Help] I can't sleep. Updates to this post /post/238940-i-cant-sleep Thu, 26 Nov 2009 03:31:39 +0100 Reply from chocoyt7 /post/238940-i-cant-sleep#reply-4762522 Avoid eating large meals or spicy foods before bedtime.

Exercise and practice relaxation techniques. If you suffer cramps during sleep, trying using a heating pad and massage to alleviate some of the discomfort.

Invest in a mouthpiece for protection and possibly think about physical therapy to prevent or treat bruxism (teeth grinding).

Avoid watching frightening or disturbing images on television or in the newspaper

Keep your sleeping area relatively cool, but not cold.

Purchase sleeping medication–stimulants if you suffer from narcolepsy and sleeping pills for insomnia. Both medications should be short-term treatments only.

Reply from Kaitey /post/238940-i-cant-sleep#reply-4722654 My insomnia began August ‘07… and didn’t ease up until October ‘08. I found that getting out of my house helped a lot. I started staying out more, and i spend maybe half the nights in a week staying somewhere else now, which does a lot of good, because it keeps me away from stuff that affect my sleep… Getting out of the bad enviroment is the best way forward I’d say.

Reply from tjwoods /post/238940-i-cant-sleep#reply-4722578 I’m glad to hear that you are doing better than before at least. Sometimes it is nice just to get it all out in a rant, and a rant can actually be really helpful for other people who have similar problems but aren’t sure how to ask about them.

Did you have specific things that you changed that helped you sleep better before, or was it just getting past a rough time of life or something? I’m just curious because a lot of people post here looking for help with insomnia.

Reply from Kaitey /post/238940-i-cant-sleep#reply-4722567 Ja, the post is more of rant.
Been sleeping normally for about 3 months, bit more maybe.
Its just incredibly frustrating for me to get sleepless nights, because when i had insomnia my life basically fell apart in a very short space of time.
Theres nothing anyone can say really, but I felt the need to let it out this time.

Reply from tjwoods /post/238940-i-cant-sleep#reply-4722539 From the sounds of it the usual advice about getting better sleep is not news to you. Were you sleeping well for a while, and then you started having trouble again?
