If you only have 1500 dollars debt then you are golden. I have more than that on just my visa. Plus two cars a morgage and my wife’s student loans trust me 1500 isn’t that bad at all.

Reply from khyron32 /post/241727-hi-my-name-is-nikki-im-21-years-o#reply-4748612 Nothing wrong with making it on your own. It means more when you earn your degree knowing you put all the effort into it and didn’t have to rely on others to help you. Whether one talks about financial or educational. It is all the same. Some parents want to pay for their kids schooling others don’t. I think the kids that pay their own way through school and have to learn how to manage their money in order to make it through school come out with a better understanding of how hard it is to make it in the real world. A lot of the kids that have parents pay their way don’t put as much interest into their schooling. They just go through the motions and don’t appreciate what they have earned.

Reply from khyron32 /post/241727-hi-my-name-is-nikki-im-21-years-o#reply-4748523 I filled out my FICA forms like everyone else and turned them into the school. They then pulled up the report to show me all the loans and grants I was eligable for. Every semester I took every grant they offered me and I never used the loans but I was offered about 5000 dollars a semester worth of loans. I just never took them. I lived within my means during college. But had I wanted them I could have taken them.
I went to college at Arizona State University (Go Sun Devils!!!)
So cali isn’t much different than arizona. The rules are all the same. Fill out your FICA every semester before you start school and see what the government says you are eligable for. If you are a full time student you should be eligable for pell grants and loans… Yes loans have to be repaid but not until 6 months after you graduate college. You can use the loans from school to help get you out of your current debt and then pay off those loans before you actually graduate. Most loans don’t mind if you start paying early.

Reply from Sasha101 /post/241727-hi-my-name-is-nikki-im-21-years-o#reply-4748490 With the lack of interest to pay , you can save money in the bank or wherever, then when you need something the money is there, you go out and buy it, and the pleasure is , you owe nobody any interest on your purchase, hence you are getting it for 15-20% less…. ok read what you wrote there, now if you go in for student loans again you are sinking more into debt, can you put your schooling on hold for a period or not ? this way you could get a part time job as well as the full time one, that debt would be paid off real quick.

Reply from khyron32 /post/241727-hi-my-name-is-nikki-im-21-years-o#reply-4748487 get rid of your phone that is a want not a need
if the car is too expensive dump it for something cheap that you can pay off right away
as for school student loans and grants will pay most of your bills.

Reply from Sasha101 /post/241727-hi-my-name-is-nikki-im-21-years-o#reply-4748479 Take cash from the bank, give yourself a weekly allowance, when you spend cash, you see where your money is going, credit cards only make you overspend, its like a virtual world, you dont realize how much you’ve spent until you get that statement. With cash once its gone its gone, you’ll be surprised how much it cuts back your spending.
