[Help] This is quite ridiculous. Updates to this post /post/248745-this-is-quite-ridiculous Tue, 08 Dec 2009 03:03:09 +0100 Reply from IrishPirateQueen /post/248745-this-is-quite-ridiculous#reply-5261532 I really don’t think these things are up to the parents. Love is love we cannot choose who we fall in love with, in my humble opinion! Although I have married within my race, it does not mean that I would not have. i have many mixed family members and I would be lost without them! We all just need to learn to widen our veiw a bit!

Hi there, even though I have voted yes,
I would like to put a small point across,
ur question is, “would you yourself date/marry someone of a different race .. or if you’re a parent, would you be okay if your child were to?”

I have seen a mixed race couple break up because the wife(European) couldn’t
adjust to tropical climate in the location where husband(Asian) worked.
So life situations must be considered carefully before arriving at a decision.

Hope u all agree, thanks for this lovely discussion @¡ʎuɐɟɟıʇ, bye.

Reply from Stoli /post/248745-this-is-quite-ridiculous#reply-4824006 I kinda understand why people are like that. It really just depends where you live.. In the south I can see it more unacceptable than in the west. Yes, the south is know for being close-minded people.

Reply from ¡ʎuɐɟɟıʇ /post/248745-this-is-quite-ridiculous#reply-4823990 Idk. Everyone on here seems to be way more open-minded than those people who I’ve asked. It just seems so weird to me, I never really thought it was an issue anymore (I guess because interracial dating just doesn’t phase me) but I guess it still is and always will be ‘wrong’ to certain people.

Exactly.. That’s why it just shocks the hell out of me when people are so against it for no real reason.
I’ve heard an opposite view once, more about cultural differences and how it can put a strain on a marriage, eg. differences in religion, differences on how you want to raise your kids, spend your money… but I think if any two people work at something hard enough, it shouldn’t be that big of an issue. Our world today is much different than that of yesterdays… globalization is a new key term, travel is super easy, and people are moving far quicker and father than ever before… its only a matter of time before people become more comfortable with the idea… think about it… we wouldn’t have our president today if people were still so caught up with the issue of color (both his parents were of different color).
I agree, but we are still caught up in color. I was very turned of by Obama with his whole church issue. I did some research and there is a lot of racist stuff that goes on with that church.

Reply from Stoli /post/248745-this-is-quite-ridiculous#reply-4814156 It doesn’t matter what color they are, as long as they have money.
My grandfather always told me to marry a rich woman. You like Oprah?, go for it.

No but really, as long as my kids are happy.

Reply from CONNOR [FIERCE] /post/248745-this-is-quite-ridiculous#reply-4812355 I think it is perfectly fine to date someone of different color or heritage.
We are all the same “race”.
We are humans!

Reply from ChavyWasabi /post/248745-this-is-quite-ridiculous#reply-4812203 I think with the way the world is right now it’s really hard no to marry or date someone from a different race… I do feel the situation in the states is different, but here in Peru we ALL have a mixture, so why care…

Different cultures?… I like the contrast ^^ been to many interesting places and people never stop surprising me, but maybe in a relationship is different.

I actually don’t see the point in discussing this, but I’m from a culture where everybody is conscious that they are mixed up, so I can’t really put myself in the same position as any of you.

Not every peruvian feels this way, but I’m sure we are less resistent to the idea. I guess is good to have an outside opinion. Thanx for the invite… hope it helped ^^

Reply from puppimaude /post/248745-this-is-quite-ridiculous#reply-4811421 I said no just from practical considerations. It is less the race than the culture. Mixed cultural marriages have a lot of built-in problems.
