You are a long way from rock bottom you have a job,that is something for starters. First make a list of what you owe and what you spend on rent,food clothes etc. see what you can save on or do without. For eg. eating at home is a lot cheaper than eating out. Look for bargains / specials at the super market,in other words cut down anywhere you can. 1. Make sure you pay all your rent.if you pay for electricty , water check that you are not being overcharged, switch off lights that are not being used. If you cant pay everyone you owe money to go and see them and explain that you are a bit short but that you can pay a portion of the instalment or monies owing now and will make up the difference as soon as possible. Everyone you owe money to would rather have a smaller payment than nothing at all also when you speak to the people you owe money to get the name of the person you speak to. Then comfirm it in writing and always keep a copy of the letters you write. If they get nasty and sue you,you can take the letters to court to prove that you had approched your creditors and have the letters as proof.Remember you must pay something to each creditor. As you get rid of one creditor DONT feel that you can buy more. Rather use the extra cash to pay off the next creditor and so on until you are dept free. Let the pain of having to go without for awhile be a reminder of what you have been through. Remember it is better to earn interest than pay interest so if you need to buy something rather save up until you can afford it pay cash and get a discount.This takes a while longer to get what you want but it might also prevent you buying something you don’t really need. You are not in position to help anyone financially explain this to your friend and if they are really your friend they will under stand

the first step is empowering yourself! you & your friend are not victims to money, you have control of your financial well being.

sit down and make a budget, come to grips with where you are and what you need to do. as long as you are accountable to your $$ sitaution, you cant become consumed by it!

I lost my job last year and did not have work for 3 months, I felt like I was hitting rock bottom too, but i worked through it.

i would never change that because it tought me to not take what i have for granted! you’ll come out of this too with a better understanding of money, and friendship :o) good luck!! we’re rooting for you!

My advise is don’t bend over backwards to help your friend (if you know you really can’t); instead being a really good friend with out sacrificing your self is enough. good luck! I’ll be praying.
