Reply from zoey18 /post/269002-im-having-my-gallbladder-rem#reply-5341402 Hey there. I go in tomorrow to have my gallbladder removed. This is my first surgery (i’m 34) and I am a little scared. I have been lucky in that I do not have the typical agonizing pain during my attacks. I do have the awful pain directly under my rib which spreads to my back, but the worst part is the constant feeling of being overly full even after barely eating anything. I am looking forward to relief and being able to eat again without fear of being up all night.

My question to you is now that you have had time to return to your normal routine how has your system adjusted? Do you still have to avoid all fats? Even the healthy ones? (such as avocado, nuts, etc.) I am very thin and rely greatly on the healthy fats to maintain weight. My recent bout with my gb has caused me to lose weight that i cannot afford to lose. The surgeon informed me that I should not have any restrictions diet wise and that I can eat whatever I want. Was he just feeding me a line so I would move forward with surgery?

Thanks.
CS

Reply from NotoriousKYA /post/269002-im-having-my-gallbladder-rem#reply-5142218 hey, so its been 2 months since my surgery… i’ve lost like.. 10 pounds.. but i dont know if that has to do with the gallbladder because i’ve been working alot, and had to change my diet so that could be it…

BUT, I no longer have that constant nausea and no more gallbladder attacks ! lol (well i hope i dont, i dont have a gallbladder to be attacked! HAHA)

Diet wise, I cant eat fatty, greasy, spicy foods anymore… i mean thats what they told me but i didnt believe it until i ate chili one day and an hour later i had to run to the bathroom to poop! (sorry but thats one of the bad parts) After surgery i didnt poop for like a week and a half but now i’ve started to get a little more normal.. but OMG im NEVER eating bad food anymore… unless i want to be stuck on the toilet for an hour in agony…

but hey, i dont mind it, i dont need that crappy food anyway!

as for weight loss, i can’t say… i have a thyroid problem going on now… and that is hindering me from losing weight or having energy.. but hopefully soon me and the doctors can start me on some treatment to get back to normal.

Could you give me an update on your health. Did you gain weight? And most important how do you feel , how are you coping with dieting ?

Not worried about the surgery as much as I am the recovery. Infections and stitches scare the HELL out of me. Hope you are doing well, wish me luck! God Bless!

Reply from NotoriousKYA /post/269002-im-having-my-gallbladder-rem#reply-4984731 A week since surgery, and im almost as good as new… its a little rough to sleep on my stomach or sides… but other than that.. everything seems to be back to normal… and I hope to be getting back to doing some exercise sometime next week. Minimal scarring.. just a couple small incisions… not bad.

Hey, there! Good to see you back, I was thinking about you! Yeah, post-op usually sucks … didn’t want to share that part with you during my first reply LOL. I HATE the coughing rule, but it is *so* important. Hang in there, tomorrow will “feel” better and the day after that better still. Thanks for letting us know you’re O.K.!

Reply from Aries /post/269002-im-having-my-gallbladder-rem#reply-4964991 NotoriousKYA, Please don’t be scared. Gallbladder removal surgery has come a long, long way in recent years; it’s not as traumatic or invasive as it was many years ago.

Write down your specific questions / fears and present them to your surgeon prior to your surgery. Although I’ve not had that particular surgery, it’s been my experience that surgeons will gladly speak with you about any of your concerns before you go into surgery. Surgeons, surgical nurses and anesthesiologists all want you to feel emotionally comfortable before they wheel you into surgery, believe me.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, -Aries.

Reply from Jared . /post/269002-im-having-my-gallbladder-rem#reply-4964946 Don’t worry, there’s nothing to be worried about. It’s a standard procedure and carried out pretty much everyday. Most likely you’ll be having keyhole surgery which leaves less scarring and less pain than the way they used to do it. But, it’ll be a lot better when it’s out and you’re feeling better! :]

Good luck.
