MY THOUGHTS: he grew up in a rural area, penola so therefore there wasn’t either a church very nearby and may not have even gone. depends on the wealth of the family and how far out they were from the town. during the time, england and aus in terms of religion weren’t too different. christinaity was just as important although, seeing as a lot of people were descents of convicts it should be noted that they were not really religious and were just labourors. i dont know enough about his background but hope this give you some things to consider. goodluck
