It gives you numbers below x ie the value and an equasion by which you have to find y.

The first value for x is -4, so to find the value for y when x is = -4, you sub -4 into the equasion = 1/2(x) - 4
= 1/2 (-4) - 4
and so on changing the value for x as you go on down through the table with different values for x.
Get it??
