The director, writer, editors, special effects team, and so and so on down the line have far more to do with it. The actors just do as they’re told and say their lines. Besides, that was one of Keanu’s better roles. He has the emotional acting range of a brick, and they had him play a stoic alien. Hell, I’m surprised he wasn’t cast as Spock.
