I never heard such a thing. Make sure it’s legitimate before you give any information. And if you think it is unfair, then hire an attorney on your own. If you can not afford an attorney the court will supply you with one. No matter what, stand tough. Credit card companies are rip-off themselves and should be put away, so my advise to you is always read the fine print.

Then ask them to allow you to spread what you owe over a longer time.
But get rid of the card in the meantime.
