Now they say if you are a permanent resident, you can miss 2 years all together out of 5, unless you were employed by a Canadian company abroad, or you lived with a Canadian citizen abroad. I am not sure of the 6 months rule, if it is still apply or not. Better to call a consulate. I don’t know anything about US rules.
