[Help] I need help with fractions! Updates to this post /post/286882-i-need-help-with-fractions Wed, 25 Nov 2009 12:39:59 +0100 Reply from roenmcgloan /post/286882-i-need-help-with-fractions#reply-5081925 There’s a good site called math.com that gives easy step by step instructions. Or you can google “multiplying fractions” to find another site.

First, you make sure everything is in the lowest terms…so 3/15 becomes 1/5…simple division. 5 doesn’t go into 18 and 6 doesn’t go into 17, so those are fine.

In this case, all you do is multiply across. Multiply all the numerators (top numbers) together and that’s your new top number, then multiply all the denominators (bottom numbers) together and that’s your new bottom number, then simplify it.

so 1 * 5 * 6 over 5 * 18 * 17, so 30 over 1530

Then you divide out how many times 30 goes into 1530.

Reply from Fuzzy Pepper /post/286882-i-need-help-with-fractions#reply-5081816 It would probably be easier if you asked your teacher, because math takes time, repetition, a good number sense, and some demonstration.

Besides, you did not tell us specifically what you need help with. Irregular fractions? Similar fractions? Multiplying? Dividing? Adding? All of the above?
