But, if you’re just thinking of the internet as the “place” you go to to get web-pages and media, then the vast majority of it is stored on specialized servers in data centers around the globe. These data-centers are then linked with very high bandwidth links so they can talk to each other and with the rest of the computers on the internet. When you access the internet your computer requests the data you want from your local ISP, it in turn asks for the data from one of its ISPs (it may have several) and your request works it’s way alaon this chain until it gets to a computer on the other end
