If your job is more important then you have to act responsibly within it and use the proper channels - if they say no then c’est la vie, as they say. If the gig is more important and they say no then tell them where to stuff the job and go.

Btw, if you ask them and they approve your leave then they can’t fire you for taking it.

What if they don’t approve of my leave? What if they do and when I come back from my leave, i get a letter saying I have a month’s time in the company ( meaning I get fired ). The economy is so shaky nowadays.. so hard to get a job. :( i’m stuck in a difficult situation.. really.

I want to attend the gig and I want my job too at the same time tho I don’t love it. But that’s all I have got to support myself at this time.. I think too much.

Aren’t you entitled to any holiday or something? I would have thought that they’re more likely to be a bit upset if you don’t tell them until the day before instead of being honest and giving them plenty of notice.

And surely telling them that it’s a family emergency can only lead to trouble; when they find out that you lied (which inevitably them will) then you’ll be up for gross misconduct or something. Just tell them the truth and give them the notice they need to make proper plans / cover.

That’s my two penneth anyway. :)

My Grandmother right now has Pneumonia in both lungs right now thats where i got the idea from and my grandmother was in the hospital for almost a week.
