Thank you, I will be more than glad to, and normally do, if it is known. Thank you for sharing.

I just now tried to edit the post, but, it wouldn’t let me, however, you have posted it here, so that should be sufficient.

And to Xeno, thank you for your reply, there is always “good and bad” everywhere you turn. We applaud the good, and I pray for the bad :)

Reply from Xeno Dragon /post/291250-my-name-is-old-glory#reply-5112052 That’s true. Which is why I said I don’t think military should be involved in this holiday, and yet everyone involves it.

Reply from NoGifts /post/291250-my-name-is-old-glory#reply-5112023 Many soldiers have been lost in service to a country who sent them to war for reasons that were not “protecting american freedom.” Patriotism and the 4th of July are not meant to celebrate soldiers and wars. We celebrate the fact that we are still a democracy, still striving to become a more perfect union, and that we can be critical of the many bad choices our nation has made along the way. The US had done, and continues to do, tons of bad stuff to other nations and to many people in our own nation. God bless the opponents and the critics, too. We are all striving in our own ways to improve our nation. “under god” was added by President Eisenhower in 1954. I’m an athiest, and still say it the original way.

Reply from Xeno Dragon /post/291250-my-name-is-old-glory#reply-5112006 In the original post. I really don’t think it’s anything to be proud of that this country has stuck it’s nose into every war. Yes, some we had no choice, but most, we had no business being involved it. We’ve killed millions of civilians over just 200 years. I used to have a list of all the casualties, but give me a war or conflict, and I’ll find the civilian death toll for either side.

The God stuff? Well, everyone who knows how to read should know by now that the heavy God influence started in the 50s, and as it’s part of the culture now, it really doesn’t bother me. It’s obnoxious, given the hypocrisy when you consider the very first Amendment, but it’s not exactly a problem we need to consentrate on at the moment. We have bigger ones.

Really, my problem is that, yes, we’ve lost a lot of soldiers. But they DID volunteer in most cases. Is it sad that they died? Obviously. Am I belittling them?
Of course not. I simply think that if we’re going to talk about the military, then the good and the bad need to come out. Good men and women have fought in places and for causes that may or may not have been necessary, and many of them have died. But what of the millions we’ve killed? Civilians and soldiers alike. Men, women, and children. And we’re supposed to be proud of this?

Personally, I think that the best thing to remember on our nation’s birthday is the day itself, what those men meant for that day, and how far we’ve strayed from that path.

We should fix the problems our founders set out to avoid, not celebrate them.

Reply from NoGifts /post/291250-my-name-is-old-glory#reply-5111983 Which, giving credit to the artists who produce moving works, or to the fact that “under god” was added during the red scare?

Reply from NoGifts /post/291250-my-name-is-old-glory#reply-5111971 Remember that “under god” wasn’t added until the 50’s, during the RED SCARE, so I prefer the original version. “One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

“Stand beside her, and guide her, through the night with the light from above.”

Reply from Silverwings /post/291250-my-name-is-old-glory#reply-5111933 I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG,

OF THE UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA ,

AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR
WHICH IT STANDS,

ONE
NATION UNDER GOD,

INDIVISIBLE, WITH
LIBERTY

AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!

For All of our other military personnel, where
ever they may Be
Please Support all of the troops defending our Country.

And God
Bless our Military who are protecting our Country for our
Freedom.

Thanks To them, and their sacrifices we can celebrate the 4th of July

We must never forget who
Gets the credit for the freedoms we have, of which we
should be Eternally grateful.

I watched the flag
Pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.

A young Marine
Saluted it,
And then he stood at ease..

I looked at
Him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square
And eyes alert
He’d stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men Like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign Soil
How many mothers’ tears?

How many pilots’ planes Shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers’ Graves ?
No, freedom isn’t free

I heard the sound of Taps One night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler Play
And felt a sudden chill.

I wondered just how many times

That Taps had meant ‘Amen,’

When a flag had draped a Coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the Children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and
Husbands With interrupted lives.

I Thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea

Of unmarked graves in
Arlington .
No, freedom isn’t free.

Enjoy Your Freedom
& God Bless Our Troops

When
You receive this, please stop for a moment
And
Say a
Prayer for our servicemen.
Of all the gifts you could give
A US Soldier, Prayer is the very best
One.

God’s Peace
MaryM
