I’d call the rspca just to be on the safe side. Even if they just tell you to leave the kitten outside for his mother, at least you’ll know for sure it’s the right thing to do.

“If you need to report an act of cruelty, neglect or concern about the welfare of an animal, call the RSPCA’s 24-hour national cruelty and advice line on 0300 1234 999.”

So if this kitten doesn’t have a collar I’d suggest you give them a ring. You might also want to try offering it some water in case it’s dehydrated. Be careful it doesn’t bite or scratch you though, as if it’s a stray it won’t have had any shots and might have picked up some diseases.
