“DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.
“Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
“Papa says, ‘If you see it in THE SUN it’s so.’
“Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?

“VIRGINIA O’HANLON.

Reply from zumackis /post/51977-does-santa-santa-claus-realy-exist#reply-1319689 Did you believe in Santa?….Are you going to celebrate easter with an easter egg hunt? Does the easter bunny exist? And what about when those pearly white teeth start falling out of your childs mouth, will you throw them away or will the tooth fairy come? I think you have a lot more to worry about than just santa.

Reply from Mee123 /post/51977-does-santa-santa-claus-realy-exist#reply-1300284 So many kids have gone through this and it hasn’t affected them in any way. It’s just something that makes the holidays more fun and gives them something to be good all year for. What happens when your child hears about santa from other kids and he realizes that santa isn’t coming to his house? And if your child asked you about santa and you told him the truth, he would tell all of the other kids and their christmas tradition would be shattered. I agree with vader, that christmas should be more about family, and giving then about getting presents from santa. That way the shock of finding out there is no santa isn’t so painful. I like the idea of having traditions like santa clause and the easter bunny and things like that.

Reply from Hope /post/51977-does-santa-santa-claus-realy-exist#reply-1295914 hmmmm…if you were talking to me anon, then yeah, I agree with you. But I do know that when you are younger you do believe whatever your parents say, and if they tell you that Santa is real, then until they are old enough to know the difference (maybe by talking to friends or parents telling them) they will believe that as if it were the truth. It doesn’t matter how true/false it is — for example, if you told your kid that an Apple was called a Banana, and acted like that was the truth, your kid would believe you until he/she was told differently and even then it may take a while for the kid to believe it. I know that was a weird example but I hope that it kind of made sense :]

Reply from Anonymous /post/51977-does-santa-santa-claus-realy-exist#reply-1295896 i think you’re right. how could someone believe in something that doesn’t have any evidence or books of any type. i mean it’s not like god, you can’t compare god with santa. we believe in god cuz there are prophits and their books which proves that there is a god. so why talk about someone who doesn’t have any history and it’s a made up?

Reply from Hope /post/51977-does-santa-santa-claus-realy-exist#reply-1295845 I never believed that Santa was real. Yeah, I know that it is a good story for kids, but I think that it is better to tell them the truth. I sometimes think that it is a copout for parents to bribe their kids into being good, but anyway, I think that making Christmas about your family and love and all that good stuff is much better then talking about Santa.

Reply from Mr_vader1 /post/51977-does-santa-santa-claus-realy-exist#reply-1295843 yes, but my parants delivered them with love, and I would try to catch them in the act, by seting traps that would couse me to wake up (mostly heavy boxes falling on my head) they always got around it apart form one year, I got them by seting the greatest and most complex trap I could think of, it hurt.

Reply from Mr_vader1 /post/51977-does-santa-santa-claus-realy-exist#reply-1295798 it would really depends on the person wouldent it? if you make Christmas about Santa then it would go down hill, if its more about family then the effect would not be so harsh.

Reply from Mr_vader1 /post/51977-does-santa-santa-claus-realy-exist#reply-1295726 do not lie, under any cercamstances, I was raised not beliveing in Santa but if I had been and then found out he was not real, I would have a great anger towards those that lied to me, and would most likely not like to celabrate Christmas anymore, it would not feel that same, as santa is a core element, and if he was riped away, there would be nothign that could fill the void, focus maybe on the aspect of shareing rather then santa or maybe the true meaning of Christmas. if he does not exist in the first place then there is no pain when he is gone.
