Reply from fanficbug /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2516229 Well, I went in to see my doctor the other day, and we were able to rule out problems with my lungs (thank the gods). But we think it might be some kind of autoimmune disorder. I’ve started a new thread in case anybody wants to follow it. http://help.com/post/76909-i-think-i-…

Reply from 2bears /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2395920 Honey if you find a physician who actually listens to what you have to say and is interested in your input, you need to let the world know :-) I have been in the healh care field in one capacity or another my entire adult life and I can count on one hand the number of physicians who want their patient’s to be involved in their own care. With the symptoms that you currently have, there are so many possibilities, however, I have known patient’s to have active Mono for up to a full year (though it isn’t the norm). If your immune system is not up to par it could very well take you longer to recover. By the way, just because I suggested a possible immuno deficiency, I was in no way implying HIV virus. Your immune system may just need to be boosted. I wish you the best of luck. Don’t forget, if you find that rarity (the physician who listens) let us all know.

Reply from fanficbug /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2391399 The symptoms are continual. :( I have, in fact, been diagnosed with mono for at least six months, but when I went in to get checked out, I’d been feeling bad for a long time before. It surprised me that they diagnosed me with mono, because the problem I came in for was a sinus infection and they diagnosed it and the mono. :/

The only immunodeficiency I’m aware of is the one that comes with AIDS, but I’m reasonably certain that I’m not HIV-positive. Are there any others I can ask about?

And, I went to the clinic I normally go to yesterday, but my doctor wasn’t in. I instead saw a doctor that said that it might be hormones (as in, menopause-like symptoms), but I’m only 19! She also mentioned the possibility of a carbon monoxide leak in the new building, even though my symptoms started before I moved. o.O She told me to go get bloodwork done, but she didn’t listen to my heart, check my blood pressure, listen to my breathing, or anything like that. And like I said, it’s been six months since I was diagnosed with mono, but no one’s talking to me about it. I’m going to go get bloodwork done just because it’s better to be safe than sorry, but I’m going to have to go back and see my actual doctor . . . She listens a lot better to me. I just don’t know when she’ll be in. :( I’ll be going in again today; I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks for offering some possibilities to talk to my doctor about–it really helps. (I just wish I could get to the doctor who actually listens to me!)

Reply from 2bears /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2378084 Have you noticed diminished symptoms or are your symptoms continual? I’m wondering if you may have an immunodeficiency in which case your immune system would not allow your body to heal. I still wish you could see your health care provider about this when you can.

Reply from fanficbug /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2341173 Well, I was hoping to answer this thread with a diagnosis from my doctor, but I can’t see her for time undetermined at the moment. :( 2bears, I think your suggestion may be correct, but it makes me worried. The thought of having something like that in my body and not being able to do something about it immediately is really scary. :( :( :(

Reply from 2bears /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2318230 Though I realize you don’t feel this is allergies, I assume that you know that after a particularly severe allergy attack you can run into secondary infection. What comes to mind is a fungal lung infection with symptoms of night sweats, chills, coughing, shortness of breath (and possible drop in your SaO²). An untreated lung infection can lead to use of O² as well as long term medication and breathing treatments. Please don’t put it off any longer and see you physician. Your symptoms are very concerning.

Reply from fanficbug /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2309109 I did do some cleaning, but I was also on heavy allergy meds at the time. (10 mg Loratidine 1/day, 25 mg Benadryl 1/night, pseudoephedrin [not exactly sure how much, but 2 pills about every 4-6 hours], and in this case, a little bit of Day-Quil.)

I guess I’m just saying, I know what an allergy infection feels like, and this is not an allergy infection. For one thing, they don’t cause me fevers like this. And it’s lasting a lot longer than an infection should . . . by now it would have run its course, and become either bronchitis or an upper respiratory infection. :-/ I appreciate the suggestion, but just know (everybody, please lol) that I’m relatively certain it’s not allergies. ;)

I don’t spend a lot of time outside, though. I’m generally too sick to go anywhere. :( I’m planning on visiting a doctor ASAP about this.

Do you live in a high humidity area that is notable for mold and mildew? And my last question…do you spend a good deal of time out doors (i.e. camping)?

Reply from fanficbug /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2274816 I am allergic to mold, but the apartment I live in has been occupied by roommates and gets regular code inspections. ;) Plus, they’re very clean people, and the environment doesn’t smell like mold; having lived in the mold capital of the world (an old hospital that had it growing from the ceilings! yuck!), I know this. Thanks for the advice, though. :)

Everybody: Oyasumi. ^_^ I’m off to bed. Mata na.

I read a lot of magazines and a read a story about someone who was real sick for like 2 years and no one knew what was wrong with her and she found out years later it was from mold

Canker sores are shallow, painful sores in your mouth. They are usually red or may sometimes have a white coating over them. You might get them on the inside of your lips, the insides of your cheeks, the base of your gums or under your tongue. Canker sores are different from fever blisters, which usually are on the outside of your lips or the corners of your mouth.

Anyone can get canker sores, but women people in their teens and 20s get them more often. Canker sores may run in families, but they aren’t contagious. Doctors don’t know what causes canker sores, but they may be triggered by stress, poor nutrition, food allergies and menstrual periods.

Reply from Heather: Given It /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2273631 OR scarlet fever
remember that you DONT have to have all the symptoms but you can have SOME of them to determine the cause of illness.
* Fever of 38 to 40 degrees C.(101-104 degrees F.)
* Fatigue
* Sore throat
* Headache
* Nausea or Vomiting
* Abdominal pain
* Flushed face with perioral pallor (circumoral pallor)
* Tachycardia (rapid pulse)
* Lymphadenopathy (enlarged lymph nodes)
* Punctate red macules on the hard and soft palate and uvula (ie, Forchheimer spots).
* Scarlet fever also produces a bright red tongue with a “strawberry” appearance.

* There is a characteristic rash which:

* is fine, red, and rough-textured; it blanches upon pressure
* appears 12–48 hours after the fever
* generally starts on the chest, axilla (armpits), and behind the ears
* is worse in the skin folds
* Pastia lines (where the rash becomes confluent in the arm pits and groins) appear and persist after the rash is gone

* The rash begins to fade three to four days after onset and desquamation (peeling) begins. “This phase begins with flakes peeling from the face. Peeling from the palms and around the fingers occurs about a week later and can last up to a month.”[2] Peeling also occurs in axilla, groin, and tips of the fingers and toes.[1]

Diagnosis of scarlet fever is clinical.

Reply from Heather: Given It /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2273599 the sores in your mouth would be cankers/canker sore.

arthritis would be explaining the pain in your joints.

Food Poisoning could explain (fever, fatigue, and headaches): Symptoms typically begin several hours to several days after ingestion and depending on the agent involved, can include one or more of the following: nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, gastroenteritis, fever, headache or fatigue. In most cases the body is able to permanently recover after a short period of acute discomfort and illness. However, foodborne illness can result in permanent health problems or even death.

or

the flu:

Symptoms of influenza (flu) may include:

* Body aches, especially joints and throat
* Coughing and sneezing
* Extreme coldness and fever
* Fatigue
* Headache
* Irritated watering eyes
* Nasal congestion
* Nausea and vomiting
* Reddened eyes, skin (especially face), mouth, throat and nose

or

strep throat canbe causing only the few lymph nodes to be swelling

The spleen is a node as well, but it’s not swollen, and neither are the other lymph nodes in my neck (the doctor mentioned posterior lymph nodes not being swollen?). I haven’t had any problems with my limbs swelling, just joint pain and the like. But thank you, I think it’s good to look at all of the options. Thanks so much for taking so much time to help me. *hug*

Reply from Heather: Given It /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2273359 * Stage 0 (latent): The lymphatic vessels have sustained some damage which is not yet apparent. Transport capacity is still sufficient for the amount of lymph being removed. Lymphedema is not present.

* Stage 1 (spontaneously reversible): Tissue is still at the “pitting” stage — when pressed by the fingertips, the affected area indents and holds the indentation. Usually upon waking in the morning, the limb or affected area is normal or almost normal in size.

* Stage 2 (spontaneously irreversible): The tissue now has a spongy consistency and is “non pitting” — when pressed by the fingertips, the tissue bounces back without any indentation. Fibrosis found in Stage 2 Lymphedema marks the beginning of the hardening of the limbs and increasing size.

* Stage 3 (lymphostatic elephantiasis): At this stage, the swelling is irreversible and usually the limb(s) or affected area is very large. The tissue is hard (fibrotic) and unresponsive; some patients consider undergoing reconstructive surgery called “debulking”. This remains controversial, however, since the risks may outweigh the benefits, and the further damage done to the lymphatic system may in fact make the lymphedema worse.

im not trying to scare you with facts or the symptoms, i just want you aware of what you may have. please talk to a doctor to help treat other problems you may be having

Reply from fanficbug /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2273354 candp: The doctors I saw came to the conclusion that it was mono based on some of my other symptoms (aches, fever, and fatigue mostly), though they couldn’t tell whether my spleen was swollen or not at the time because I was too ticklish that day. I went in to get checked out again often, and since then it’s been determined that my spleen isn’t swollen, and that only my anterior lymph nodes are swollen. *Shrug* I can tell my doctor thinks it’s weird. I think so, anyway. The exchange basically went like this:

Doctor: “How are you feeling?”
Me: “Still sick. I feel fatigued.”
Doctor: “Does your throat hurt?”
Me: “No, not at all.”
Doctor: (frown) “Are your lymph nodes still swollen?”

She checked my lymph nodes and found out they still were.

Doctor: “Hmm, the back lymph nodes aren’t swollen. Is your spleen swollen?”
Me: “I don’t know, we were never able to check that.”
Doctor: “Seriously? Well, let’s try again.”

(about 30 minutes of tickling here before I was able to settle down, lol)

Doctor: “Huh. It’s not swollen. What are your other symptoms?”

At that point I told her the symptoms and she thought for a moment. Then she told me that I would probably have a lot of different symptoms due to mono, but she didn’t sound very sure. :-/ I guess I’ll need to go back and talk to her again about it more aggressively.

Reply from Heather: Given It /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2273303 i believe that when the lymphs are swelling or are swollen that is known as Lymphedema: swelling, especially in the subcutaneous tissues, as a result of obstruction of lymphatic vessels or lymph nodes.

Reply from fanficbug /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2273216 soyinfinita: The thing that really bothers me is that I don’t have all the symptoms of it, so the doctors were never sure whether I had it or not. :( I’ll try to get a second opinion (or induce her to be more open), though; I think that’s a good idea.

Also, sorry to everyone but I forgot to mention that those meds also included multivitamins, and I’ve been getting stuffed full of fruits and veggies by my roomies and husband. ^^’ My bad, I’m sorry!

Heather Marie: If you feel like it would help to look up my symptoms I’d be so grateful, but I don’t want to impose. I know it would probably take a long time, and you’re right, it’s a doctor’s job. Thank you for the advice; I’ll get in touch with my doctor ASAP.

Marylou62: They actually started the morning before I moved; I woke up the morning of and had a fever. :( Maybe something I packed has something to do with it. I’ll mention the possibility to my doctor, thanks!

Reply from Marylou /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2273148 Did you start having all these symptoms after you had moved into your new appartment? Maybe your new appartment is an unhealthy place to live in. There could be mildew in some places or something else making you sick in there. It happened to me once. For the whole time I lived in this appartment (1½ year), I got the flu 8 times. I would be sick for about 1½ month and then get a break for a month and so on… When I finally moved out of there, I didn’t get the flu for at least 2 years. I hardly ever get sick anymore! Talk to your doctor about that possibility.

Reply from Heather: Given It /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2272911 it seems like there are so many complications i dont know where to begin, as much as i want to be a doctor i am not one at the moment and i dont know any that are on help.com but if there is something wrong with you and you think doctors know they cant hide that information from you, you should call your doctor go over all your symptoms and have him make a diagnosis it could be something more serious then you think and its better to be safe then sorry i could look all up these symptoms in my book but gettin back to you would take awhile. but really talk to a doctor and get a diagnosis, maybe the medication you have isnt treating all the right things. eating some proper foods with vitamins can help increase your immune system to help fight of sickness, so try drinking alot of fluids like water and dark thick fruity drinks like apple cider, oj, and V8 try eating some fruits and veggies to boost your energy and immune system.

Reply from soyinfinita /post/72288-i-think-im-sick#reply-2272896 I’ve experienced something like that before! Every morning I would wake up and my throat would hurt, I was always fatigued no matter how much I rested, I had swollen lymph nodes, and for a while, unexplained pain throughout my body.oh and the sores in the mouth that made me think it was an infection. A large part of it I think was from this severe depression I was in (the random pain), as for the other things, I’m not really sure what it was I think it was a really bad case of mono paired with anemia.
Maybe try getting a second opinion from a different doctor. I never really sought serious medical attention and got better but after a long long time. Maybe also try taking some vitamins and getting out and doing stuff that’s fun and active.
Last december I had the sores again really bad but I went to the doctor and they said it was an aggressive infection and prescribed strong medication. It went away for the most part.
good luck to you!!!
