[Help] down by the bay... Updates to this post /post/77150-down-by-the-bay Wed, 17 Mar 2010 18:39:27 +0100 Reply from beingbridg /post/77150-down-by-the-bay#reply-4853702 Hi, my nine year son thinks this nursery rhyme is about a mother who is divorced so she takes her sorrow out on smoking pot. She has a teenage son that runs away because the mom is smoking pot so he becomes a sailor and whenever he comes home the mom asks questions only a high person would ask. This is direct from my nine year old’s mind.No, I am not divorced or do any drugs.

Reply from ~Soulsearcher~ /post/77150-down-by-the-bay#reply-2560320 I think this is what it means;
This child lives in a home near a watermelon field down by the Bay. To get to his home he has to pass the watermelon field. He doesn’t dare to go home because, every time he goes home, his mother would ask- did you ever see a ripe watermelon? did you ever see a ripe watermelon? blah, blah, blah….. and the child is so sick of it so, he doesn’t want to go home.
I wouldn’t want to go home either, if my mother asked me the same question over and over again every day.

Reply from hfhubbard11 /post/77150-down-by-the-bay#reply-2552738 I think it’s a matter of bringing yourself down to the childs level of thinking…pure, innocence…maybe. Jesus the Nazerine said something like unless you become like children, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. I just think it has something to do with purity of heart…or I might just be crazy!LOL! Good post, H

Reply from courtybubble /post/77150-down-by-the-bay#reply-2525998 i know another version….
down by the bay
where the watermelons grow
i would not go
for if i did
my mama would say
have you ever seen a bee with a sunburnt knee (or some other such ryme!)
down byyyyyyyyyyyy the bay.
i work at an outdoor education centre and we sing this song sometimes around the campfire, its a “repeat after me”song and you basically sing it as stupid as yu can so everyone is making fools of themselves at the same time…
try it sometimes its great fun!
