Reply from Unicity /post/96706-looking-for-a-few-good-writers#reply-3101337 If the lights went out I can still function but am continuosly trying to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. Learning how to do graphic design and production, what used to be print, radio and television, motion pictures ( all quaint terms now, wouldn’t you say ) in the twenty-first century.

My son, now nine, got his first G3 several years ago- After the introduction of OS X- and managed to come up with a keystroke combination that zapped the EPROM last year- All this simply by watching daddy work from across the room.

Reply from Unicity /post/96706-looking-for-a-few-good-writers#reply-3101328 My personal interest lies more along the lines of the use of emerging technology in social developement. Although my background is in ‘old school’ graphic design & typography- We used pen & ink, exacto knives, and camera’s as big as a two bedroom house- That era is gone and being reinvented as we speak.

Reply from Unicity /post/96706-looking-for-a-few-good-writers#reply-3101322 Having been ‘living with computers’ since 1969, eleven years before IBM announced the personal computer, I am aware, at least on a theoretical basis, that the writers could be anywhere. On the other hand they should have an awareness or an attunement to the local market.

I’ll give you one example: My fiance is planning an upcoming column on the history of the buffet in the american west, followed of course with a review of the various casino buffets in the area.

Another example might be a series of articles on the history of small town developement in the west.

Reply from pseudoniem /post/96706-looking-for-a-few-good-writers#reply-3101316 Again I ask, why do you need them locally? What do you want them to do?

Reply from Unicity /post/96706-looking-for-a-few-good-writers#reply-3101273 As I mentioned briefly, the town has but two writers, and one of those is retired, so there is but one byline on 80% of the articles in the weekly newspaper ‘MesquiteLocal.Com’. We are open to suggestions.

In conjuntion with that, the town has fourteen golf courses and eleven casinos, fifty-three restaurants- Did I mention a small airport. Due to rather spectacular real estate developement almost everything else is in demand.

The local community college and high schools have thus far been un-responsive- One of the many reasons I brought the subject up here, in this venue.

Reply from pseudoniem /post/96706-looking-for-a-few-good-writers#reply-3101261 Why do you search writers locally then? And, if you are offering a potential job here, what are the qualifications and expectations?

Reply from Heather: Given It /post/96706-looking-for-a-few-good-writers#reply-3101233 So the writing would be based on the technology and graphic aspect?

Reply from Unicity /post/96706-looking-for-a-few-good-writers#reply-3101225 Technically, I work for ‘Suzibelle Internet Enterprises’, a five year old firm specializing in all things digital e.g. eMail marketing, web sites, blogs etc, video & audio enhanced sites ( vLogs & podcasts ) but my partner is also the founding partner of a local print newspaper, a magazine which is another joint-venture, and a digital radio station- so I have more than a vested interest in that arena as well.
