  Hi there, I’ve actually tried running away before. Trust me, it shouldn’t even be an option. Express yourself in the aforementioned writing process, or just any creative way possible. It helps more than you could ever imagine.

  I didn’t perceive your reply as being mean spirited at all. In a graphical display of the gross domestic product, the link provided below, it is shown very blatantly that economic growth is approximately the same for the two administrations.   Most people attribute the economic growth to Clinton’s actions claiming that he balanced the federal budget which led to lower long term interest rates, subsequently stimulating more investment. However this in itself is a stretch. The effects by the budget changes on interest rates are too minuscule to have had any noticeable positive impact on growth.
  
  There were federal policy shifts which Clinton cannot claim credit for that economists posit were responsible for the economic growth. The economic policies that he actually can claim responsibility for such as the World Trade Organization or the North American Free Trade Agreement, what you talked about in your last reply, did not cause much change. According to the World Banks publications, specifically Hafbauer’s “NAFTA Revisited: Achievements and Challenges 2005″, link provided below, the North American Free Trade Agreement overall has not caused trade diversion aside from textiles and apparel. It is also shown that the collected NAFTA imports’ percentage growth was accompanied by an almost similar increase of non-NAFTA exports. This makes it evident that NAFTA did not have a profound impact on trade.
  
  In the late 1990s, there was the stock market bubble that Clinton cannot claim responsibility for either. In essence this was a fourteen trillion increase in stock holdings over the last decade. This had caused higher income households to spend freely which provided a considerable stimulus to the economy - about the same as a large increase in federal government deficit spending. Clinton’s foreign economic policy devastated poor countries, making an economically unsustainable trade deficit.
  
  Now, President Bush is a different story. Just because the economy does work in what economists call a ‘cycle’ does not mean that it can be the sole reason that we’re in debt at this point. Different circumstances affect different presidential administrations.

  1. Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting weak?
  -Depends on the person. Out of all the questions this is the one I’m pretty unsure about, but it most probably is caused by humans and our natural desire to control objects and things with our hands. So, impulsively we might press the remote control harder because with a lot of objects, we are able to infuence something based on our hands and the amount of pressure we apply to that object. I can’t really explain it that well other than the fact that it’s our intrinsic desire for control as well as the ingrained belief that our hands can cause change, literally. Personally though, with my video game controller, I might press harder on it due to aggression or because sometimes I think that I didn’t press down the button hard enough for it to work (in other words I might have accidentally not pressed the button all the way).
  
  2. Why do banks charge a fee on “insufficient funds” when they know there isn’t enough?
  -Since I’m not too familiar with banks and how they operate, I had to look this one up. Apparently charging people for insufficient funds if a major source of revenue for banks. Banks basically just want to make more money because they can.
  
  3. Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?
  -If one believes an individual that says that there are four billion stars, or will name some foolish exact and precise amount of stars that are present, then the believer truly is gullible. As of this point, it is impossible to know the exact count of all the stars that exist within the universe. Furthermore, the fact that many stars have probably died already by the time the light reaches us only further proves that there is an inordinate amount of stars that cannot be counted at this point because of many variables and factors, as well as the fact that we do not know how for sure how far the universe expands. As far as the paint being “wet”, it depends on the situation and the people involved. For example, I would check to see if a park bench was wet even if there was a “wet paint” sign just to see if it has dried already so I could sit on it. However, let’s use a second example. What if one hired a painter to paint the side of the house. If he would tell you that the paint is wet, you probably would not want to touch it. There are many variables that will change the person’s reaction to being told the paint is wet, and this includes the environment, the establishment of ethos by the person, the establishment of logos by the person, and natural human curiosity.
  
  4. Why doesn’t glue stick to inside of the bottle?
  -There are water molecules within the substance that we call ‘glue’. In the bottle, there is not much air, so the water does not evaporate. In fact, because the glue bottle is closed, there should technically be an equilibrium established between the evaporation and condensation. Anyway, water molecules within the glue is what makes glue so mobile. When the substance exits the bottle, the water evaporates or dries and sticks things together. We say it ‘dries’ because it loses the moisture and water molecules through evaporation. This can also happen when one leaves the glue bottle open.
  
  5. Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?
  -The needles are mass produced for all medical needs and as such, during production all batches are sterilized during manufacture.
  
  6. Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
  -The main reason that kamikaze pilots wear helmets is because the majority of kamikaze missions are unsuccessful due to several reasons, including inclement weather, failure of the pilot to crash at a vital point at the target, or just the general challenging nature to complete the task successfully. Why lose a pilot in a stupid accident if he or she is not able to be successful? Exactly.

  Outright stating that AIDS was spread by homosexuals implies your ignorance. The reason AIDS travels within the homosexual community is because not only has mainstream society ostracized and disenfranchised homosexuality for a really long time, thus resulting in a smaller subset of available and active sexual partners while also forbidding the use of condoms in some places with Catholic presences (such as some African countries), but because the right wing tried to convince people AIDS only did occur to homosexuals, so that the poor people would die out. AIDS is from mucus membrane exchange, which has nothing to do with sexual orientation. Did you know that the majority of those that have AIDS received it through heterosexual intercourse? Did you know that AIDS can be passed through breast milk? At what point is AIDS a homosexual disease? Care to explain why various genetic and pheromone studies suggest that homosexuality is is a naturally occurring event (it’s not a choice)? The fact that you also said the reproductive organs do not fit in homosexual intercourse is not even much of an argument to debate on. In fact, I’ll just ignore you said that. :)

  I’ve cut before, I know how the euphoria feels. If this person has that mentality right now and is unwilling to put forth a commitment, what makes you think that he’ll put forth a decent commitment and be faithful even if he was living near you. You can’t force him to change his mind on a subject, you have to respect his beliefs. Now, as for the college major, I’m not sure what you can do for that. First things are first though. Call up a friend. Tell him or her that you’re feeling slightly melancholy and that you need someone to cheer you up. You can always try the Delay and Distract method too. The idea behind it is that it is a system to help you stop cutting. For example, for Delay you should to wait ten minutes before you cut. By then the urge will already be gone. The other component, Distract, is self-explanatory. Listen to upbeat music, go to the gym and exercise, find an activity that will take your mind off of all the stress, do something that will distract you. Coming from a person that had and probably still has depression, I would recommend that you join a local gym and go exercising. It works wonders for one’s mental state and physical state. I’m sorry things seem so hopeless now but if you can manage to hang on through college then I’m sure better days are ahead. Take care. I wish you the best of luck in all of your endeavors. :)

  Understood, sorry for asking. Hm..well you should only logically consider running away if you’re able to support yourself: that means you should be able to consistently eat, drink, sleep, and possess some form of adequate shelter. Truthfully though, you seem like quite the strong one. Your parents are overbearing, your love physically abuses you, and you basically live in an uncomfortable living situation. If anything try distancing yourself away from your love, as hard as it might be. Every day take little steps to back away from such an emotionally and physically taxing relationship. As for your parents, you’re right, you can’t do anything about. My girlfriend is in a similar situation regarding the unbearable parents. But you know what? You still have freedom. Freedom in how you express your emotions, freedom in writing, freedom in talking to someone. The independence you crave is limited yet right in front of you. Use it to your advantage.

  I ran away because I deluded myself into thinking life would be better. I was very wrong indeed. If I wouldn’t have gotten caught (which happens in most cases anyway btw), I wouldn’t have met the one person that made my life worth living.
