  Alright, let me just state this first: don’t change yourself to purposely attract men. Stay true to the self you are most comfortable with. Sometimes people are just in the wrong place at the wrong time and can’t find anyone. I know several people in their late teens and early 20s that are very attractive, but most haven’t had anything beyond a first date. One, who is happily married, didn’t kiss anyone until she was 22! The point is that just stop worrying. Love will come when it’s good and ready, so prepare by being comfortable with who you are. Rid yourself of those insecurities and focus on building your self-esteem, not tearing it down as you have done so in this post. The truth is that 23% is still a decent population, and because it’s an art school everyone will have something in common: a love for aesthetics. There’s your conversation starter. and it probably won’t be hard to find someone outside of the college, either. trust me. You’ll do fine. Btw, guys at your school are crazy, because nerdiness is hot, haha.

  There will always be an element of risk involved when it comes to the stock market. You can minimize that risk by making “safe” investments (e.g. index funds). You can’t really say objectively whether it’s a good idea or not, it’s dependent upon the circumstances of your own financial situation and how much risk you’re willing to take on.
  
  Ideally, before you look into investing, you should have an emergency fund of at least 18k built up, you should be debt-free, and you should have some sort of roth ira fund set up.
  
  Things like daytrading is just gambling. You might earn more money playing Texas Hold’em.

  i agree, it’s interesting and may even be insightful, but looking at the replies i made causes me to cringe because they remind me from where i started this journey, even if it can be nice to see the progress made.

  i really do know the feeling. like your heart got ripped out, pretty much. but look at it this way: you took the hard road, it’s highly likely you’re at a level much higher than those that just took the fluff courses. with all the knowledge you’ve gained from all those difficult classes you took, even if they set you back GPA-wise, you’ve accomplished quite a bit and not only will your resume/application look much more impressive than if you took the easy way out to get latin honors, but also you as a person progressed further than the point where you started this journey.

• Best C++ IDE.
  

  Visual Studio is the best IDE for C++, probably even one of the best IDEs period.
  
  cplusplus is really not a resource you want to be learning from.
  
  Go find a good scan of a textbook online, like “Accelerated C++” if you aren’t a complete beginner (that is, you know Java or Python or something) or “Programming: Principles and Practice using C++” if you are a beginner.

• What’s your story?
  

  I’ve always been an outcast, whether that is self-imposed or not is up for debate. Most of my angst occurred during high school when I realized I didn’t have any friends, and the resulting insecurity was more than enough to throw me into a period of dark depression, self-harming, and anorexia. I was reported by the school’s teachers for suicide outlook and consequently placed on medical leave from school, which woke me up enough to keep my sad thoughts private and learn to put up a facade.
  
  I found two best friends online and was caught in a love triangle (dated them both, we physically met), which was incidentally more destructive than simply being alone. I let go of one of them, kept dating the girl and chose a uni close to her, and then let her go too so that we could both have room to grow.
  
  Much of the first half of my time in uni was spent trying to make friends and trying to handle my insecurities. I’ve always been the type to excel without exerting any effort, though by the time I finished most of a Math major that came to a crashing halt. After great indecision and surveying of different fields, I decided on Computer Science.
  
  On the way, I’ve made and lost many friends, both online and offline. In the process, I’ve found a wonderful, loving boyfriend.
  
  Nowadays, I still have bouts of insecurity, but those are often followed by periods of high motivation for self-improvement. Over the years, I’ve learned a great deal about finding tools to help mitigate sadness and insecurity without overcompensating. I’m currently focused on improving myself even more by conquering my old fears.

  There is nothing to be ashamed of.
  
  They laugh because they don’t understand. Personally, I think you are fortunate for discovering something that can drive you so much. Don’t let them get to you, keep on doing what you enjoy best.

• Scripting/Markup Languages.
  

  Arguably, there are better places to start programming than with Java. But since you know a bit already, if you insist on still learning it then stick with Headfirst Java. Otherwise, learn programming concepts through a scripting language like ruby or python (google ‘invent with python’, it’s free). The concepts from language to language are transferable. If you learn it with a language that doesn’t obscure things, it might be less discouraging.
  
  HTML/CSS are in a completely different realm than programming languages. They’re for organizing and styling content on a web page.
