2009-03-08 19:07:23 on this should be an easy problem to solve…and if
Just relax. And where exactly do you ‘get out’? The bars are good for one-night stands and pick-ups. Bad idea. Clubs/parties that someone you know is going to… slightly better. Join activities. Do something you’ve really wanted to do, but haven’t felt like you could.
2009-03-08 18:57:55 on What is love?
I am not a fan of Miley Cyrus, but I feel it necessary to quote her songs:
“The 7 things I hate about you
You’re vain, your games, you’re insecure
You like me, you like her
Your friends your jerk when you act like them,
just know it hurts.
I wanna be with the one I know.
And the 7th thing I hate the most about you,
You make me love you.
…
The 7 things I like about you
Your hair, your eyes, your old levis,
When we kiss I’m hypnotized,
Your hands and mine intertwined,
Everything’s alright.
I wanna be with the one I know.
And the 7th thing I like the most about you,
You make me love you.
Also… true love, does not exist at first sight. First sight=hormonal imbalance and historical/biological influence. BUT, love exists, when both people are truly committed to each other. It’s slightly impossible to know how much your partner is committed, but if you keep in it with the idea that you both love each other equally and deeply realistically, then you might get hurt if it doesn’t work out. But it will not have worked out because of the other person, not because of yourself.
Love doesn’t just happen. You’re supposed to fight, to disagree; it would be too boring without it. But it’s learning to take the other’s things in stride, to agree to disagree, to work things out. Best friends make the best lovers. Love takes work, but if you don’t stress about it, it can be a wonderful experience.

because the -4 in the equation with brackets is applied to -6….
the -4 in the equation without the brackets is applied to 6, and then that answer is multiplied by the ‘-’ (-1).
2009-03-04 18:55:46 on Does anyone know what a competent teacher is?
:P, it’s the system… up here, there’s sometimes no middle school… It’s grade school up till gr.8, and then you graduate onto highschool, which is grade 9-12 and you can do a ‘victory lap’, which means taking an extra year of highschool gr. 12 courses…
2009-03-04 18:23:22 on Does anyone know what a competent teacher is?
Yeah, I’m looking for personal experiences; everyone i have ever talked to says that it’s all about the teacher. A lot of students have gone into their field because of an excellent teacher. So i know alot of the stuff that won’t do, but I have some very experimental ideas that I’m not too sure kids would go for… for the sake of argument, here’s my ideas for the highschool french classroom:
-Grade 9: all french taught in English. They can’t learn to speak a language if they’re learning in a language they don’t understand; it’s redundant
Learn all the basic verbes and all the conjugations. Learn to pronounce them correctly
An entirely english speaking room; Students will feel more free to ask questions about WHY it doesn’t make sense, instead of just nodding and smilling and counting down the days until they don’t have to take french (up here, we have to take french into the 9th grade, and can then drop it).
Little tests every other day that quiz on the previous couple of days work, each worth 1% of their overall term mark, adding up to about 50%; highschool is supposed to prep them for university, but marks-wise, it is SO FAR from close. Make the midterm worth 20% of the mark, the final 30%.
-Grade 10: start integrating french conversation in the room; i will speak french, and if they don’t get it, i will switch to english. This is when they learn to properly pronounce everything they learned the previous year, and we build on grammar, sentence structure, learning how to combine what they already know.
They will have oral excersizes/mini projects, where they all have to speak some french, in order to grade them, and of courses some quizzes to help them make sure they retain the information, though not as frequently as the first year.
-Grade 11: Complete open french. They can gossip about who dumped who for all I care. Constant chit-chat in the classroom, so long as it is in french. If they have a question about how to say something, it can very easily be turned into a grammar lesson. (for example, right now we’re learning about celui, cet, etc.., which would have been really helpful to know earlier on). In this way, they can learn to be fluent in their speech and their writing, understand it by applying it to their own ways… If they’re taking grade 11 french up here, then they want/need to take french for what they want to do. They want to be there at that point. This grade would also have an oral exam of about 10 minutes.
-Grade 12: Still constant speaking french in the classroom, but more emphasis on studying literature, composing essays on the literature we review. Giving them terms that they would then be used to using constantly in English, and learning to apply those techniques to French. Studies of interesting things, cultures, news articles from france. And of course, always available throughout the years for help, advice. Learning to appreciate the French language as a culture, and USING it, instead of learning about using it.

:P..
So newhoosie, college huh? Look at bursaries, scholarships. If you do well in school, see what you can do about getting residence; no point in spending tiem outside of walmart for one weekend at a time when you can spend about 9 months completely on your own. If you also go to OSAP, you are given the opportunity to write down all the **** that happens to you; provide reasons why you deserve to go to school, why you need the help (this is for the scholarship stuff) and for bursaries, there’s a million out there… A good place to look for Canadian scholarships (sorry, i’m up north, dunno about you)
http://www.scholarshipscanada.com/
if you’re in the US, then there should still be websites avaiable for this. You still have exams coming up; cut down on the stress by ignoring it. Your room can become your haven when you have to stay home. Keep your books and work in there, secret stashes of food if it gets really rough, and be civil to the fam… Work your butt off on the scholarly level. If you can get your marks as high as you can, then you can escape on your own means. If you can move in with the girlie, then that’s awsome; studying still has to be done of course:P. So what are you planning to do if you get in?
2009-03-04 18:03:05 on Does anyone know what a competent teacher is?
I’m in school to be a highschool teacher; i’m actually interested in this, people post critisms!… Although, ‘my teacher sucks’ doesn’t qualify as help. Specifically, explain what’s messed up about the teacher.. Monotone is the obvious. Is it crazy to be too involved in your subject? I don’t mean lunatic-wise… just interested in showing the class what’s great about it…
2009-03-04 17:38:33 on Not talking with my family– please help!
Yeah, family sucks. I lived with a legally narcotic mom and it was severe for about 7 years; the change?=me growing up and being a teenager. Not even one of those really rebellious types, just a regular teenager who was learning to use a voice. No drugs no alchol, etc, and she got mad over nothing. This past summer, me and my dad finally moved out together; it’s hard because he pays her alimony, and now i’m at university so i also have to work full-time during the summer, part-time school.
My point? It’s hard. People are stubborn, and usually because it’s an emotional issue. Obviously your family doesn’t want you to go, it’s hard. Their oldest son didn’t leave them so they’re not used to having a child leave. Did I mention I also have a lover that i am planning to move in with in a few years? It’s something that your parents will have to accept; they legally cannot tell you what to do. They will try to keep you with them, by means of financial support. And while you’re there, it is a good idea to be respectful of them; i’m sure you still love them even though it’s hard, and you know they still love you because they don’t want you to go. That’s normal. As for the brother, maybe it’s a jealousy issue; once you’re in a situation that’s comfy, it’s really hard to take a plunge out of it. Why should you get to have the life you want when he can’t get out of his own rut? But while you’re brother may be stuck, you’re not. If you plan on going to school after highschool, then look at scholarships/bursaries-i kid you not, there are hundreds out there that people don’t even apply for that you would almost definitely be eligible for simply for being in financial need. If school’s not your thing and you’re heading straight to the workforce, figure out how you can move up the chain, get better jobs, build up your experience. And talk to your lover girl; maybe she has plans with you that just haven’t come up yet. Something you don’t want to do though is base your entire life around her: building it together is okay, but centering your entire plan around her won’t be the greatest thing if it should happen to fall apart; nonetheless, if you both want out, and you come up with a plan to keep yourselves afloat, go for it. If your family wants to be mad at you, then that’s their problem. If you’re respectful of them, and tell them that you’ve made up your mind and you would really like their support, that’s going to boost your points; they’ll probably eventually see that they need to let go. If they don’t, then you can go in full conscience that there was nothing you could say or do to keep them in your esteem (i know that a ‘conscience’ isn’t exactly what you think of at this point, but trust me, it’ll stop you from going back to a situation you hate).

odd pattern, and even odder than you can recognize the pattern… which means that you see a possibility of why there’s the whole every 3 months thing.

2009-02-08 16:48:30 on life has lost it’s lustre, i see no purpose anymore, i do not know what to do?
but how often does it fall apart? everyone faces a serious breakdown at some point in their lives (to the person who can honestly say they haven’t, you are among the extremely luck few)… most people pick themselves up, or give up (aka, suicide either by threatening to do it via drugs/alchol, or they’ll acutally pick up a weapon)

Partner up with him in class…
Or if you can be seriously bold, walk up to him after class and say “You’re hot. I want to know who you are… sounds good?”
2009-02-08 16:32:38 on when is a good time for me to give my girlfriend my class ring?
Give it some time boy… You’re still in honeymoon stage… give it at least a few more months (give her the ring now, and watch her turn her back on you and freak out)… Seriously, if you wait awhile, it’ll show that you’ve been thinking about it more, that it’s not a fluke just to get some action… And when you’ve developed more personal jokes and some physical stuff, when it will MEAN something more… When you can pick a place that you two really connect with to each other, that’s one sign it might be time to see how she would feel about it… Until you know her mother’s maiden name might be one way to try it…Aka, meeting the rents first.
