2008-10-10 21:05:59 on My boyfriend thinks I’m controlling.
In response to Bacon: This is still only one side of the story. This is your perception of what his response would be if he was here.
For you: I don’t need both sides of the story in this case. Normally I agree with Bacon on that point. In this case, however, your perception is so skewed in one direction that there is no hope for this relationship. I am not saying you are lying. You could be telling it exactly as it is. If that is the case then you need to leave him because this is not healthy at all. But, even if it is not the case and you are way over embellishing (and I am not saying you are) then you STILL need to leave him because you are so locked in the mind set that he doesn’t care that it will be virtually impossible to change your mind.
Basically, this only has one real solution regardless of his side of the story or whether you are telling the truth or not. It is all based on your perception of the relationship and that is that he is a duchebag. Only him completely changing into a different person is going to give this relationship a chance. And any person who requires that of a partner is not worth the trouble.
Leave him. It’s the healthiest thing you can do.
Sully
P.S. By reading this I am guessing you are in high school or possibly late middle school. Correct me if I am wrong… You have a long life ahead and there are much better opportunities out there.
2008-10-10 20:27:05 on To the mods.
The one to invite is Yousef. youabi is his user name. He is the admin that is currently working on the complete rewrite of help.com. And I dont just mean a face lift. He is rewriting the base code from the ground up. Thats why its taking him so long… iLuv, its not that we don’t care. As mods we really can’t change the site. But just to let you know how much the admin really does care I will tell you this. There is a post on here asking about new features for the site. There is another one on the mod forum asking what new features would benefit the site. Several different ways of dividing the site into subjects or groups has been proposed. I am not sure which one Yousef is going to use tho.
Invite Yourabi.

I think I get it… There is nothing wrong with being a single guy at age 30. Just thought I would throw that out there… I am 30 and single. I know what it is like to be single for a long time. I am now starting to think I may not want to stay single. I would suggest you stop looking for the girl of your dreams. That seems to be when you find them anyway…
What you really need to do is sit down and ask your self what you want to accomplish by the time you are 30. Or 35 or 60… Pick an age. If you do not know what you really want to do or accomplish then you are going to just continue to flounder around. There is nothing wrong with floundering for several years either. As long as you are enjoying it.
I got to the point where I was no longer enjoying it so, I sat down and made plans. After about 3 months of toying with the ideas I just said “screw it” and bought a plane ticket. Now I am doing what I have always wanted to do. I am traveling the globe. I am also doing something I never dreamed I would ever do. I am teaching! I have taught before. But I taught survival courses, archery, fencing, and riflery. I did not teach in a school. Now I am an English teacher. Suit and tie in front 25 to 45 students lecturing on language and pronunciation English teacher! You have know idea how out of character that feels or seems to me. But it’s working. I like it and I am getting to travel a lot.
Find out what you really want. Remove women from the equation. Other then a girl friend, what do you really want for you. Once you have this firmly in mind, you will be in a much better position and have a much easier time finding that girl. If you do not know what you want for your self then how can you even guess at what you want in a woman?

What is something you would like to do? I was in a similar position and have left it so I may have a few good suggestions for you.
I may touch on philosophy but I always steer clear of religion.
2008-09-30 05:24:25 on Why am I getting dumber!
Odd place to ask… I was robbed in south Bangkok. Near where the sky train and subway interchange is. Well… Thats where I got a taxi. The taxi picked up 2 others who then robbedme and dropped me off in some random place I had never been. I was coming out of CP Tower when I took the taxi. It was about 10pm. Why you ask?

Charlie, the true hierarchy is established by those who establish them selves as someone to be followed or those willing to follow. I think that half your problems are because you think you should be a follower and you are actually in the 5%.
2008-09-29 22:29:05 on I keep stressing out about everything.
So sorry I missed this. My internet has been very spotty at best of late.
I was starting to feel the way you do about my life in general and about those around me. That is one of the things that prompted this trip. I kept putting off my traveling because of money. Finely, I stopped everything and said its never about the money for me so, why am I making it that now? I bought my plane ticket the next day. Everything in the world seemed to try to keep me from getting here. But I am here now. I am in some more debt then I was when I left. But that is going to disappear quickly. I don’t think I am successfully making the point I want to…
It is not the world thats wrong. Once I figured that out life became a lot more fun. I wont say easier… But a lot more enjoyable. The best way to sort out all the problems that come your way is to sort out your mind and body. Once you do, everything else starts to fall into place.
2008-09-29 08:44:39 on How can I stop a wireless signal from entering my house.
Ignorants is no excuse. You can not change the laws to suit your self and your values. If you feel it is steeling then you don’t have to do it. There is a reason the law is applied in this manner. Having it unsecured is giving every one permission to use it freely. There is a program being run in a couple cities I have traveled to. You go to a website the city runs and register your unsecured wifi conection. It is plotted on a map and that map is availible to any who look it up. In some of these cities you get a small tax write off for doing this because you are helping the city provide a service.
As for limewire and other torrents? I do not use them. I buy my music. But I believe that all music, movies, and books that are over X years old are legal to down load with out paying. I think X=50 years… I am not sure. I use Linux so, most of my software is free anyway and thats the only thing I really ever download. Stealing from the artists is wrong.
If you want to show your neighbor how to secure their wifi assuming they want to I can tell you how provided they are running a router I am familier with. I can help you find out how in any case.

You could make it a monthly thing if ya wanted too… The next one I do will be here in China. Tianjin to be exact!
2008-09-17 11:22:29 on How can I stop a wireless signal from entering my house.
I read the first half of the replies so, sorry if I repeat anyone. If she is using the WiFi signal then it has to be pretty close. With in 300 feet. That limits it to the closest of neighbors. As for the laws on stealing internet over wifi… If the signal is not secured then she is not stealing. The network has to have at least some very basic attempt at security before she is actually breaking the law.
A scrambler will not kill the signal. It will create a new signal that jumbles up and disrupts the other signals. This will affect cell phones and cordless things as well. Also, if the scrambler is effective enough it could cause your neighbor to have issues in there own house.
Your best bet is just to ask around and see if they even care. If they do then show them how to secure it. There is software that can bypass a lot of security on wifi networks. Using this IS illegal. But logging into an unsecured and open network is the same as walking into a public place. I had 2 networks at my house. I secured the one my computers where always on and left one open for random people who needed one. I use unsecured networks for Skype phone calls all the time. I am traveling the world at the moment… So, any opportunity to call home is good.

The conflict with Cambodia is far away and of no concern. It will not spread to all out war and even if it did I am about as far from that boarder as you can get. I am more concerned over the PM not resigning. The political coupe going on is a little nerve racking…
