  How is your fax machine connected to your phone line? Is it connected through a splitter? If so try removing the splitter and plugging it directly into the phone outlet.

  You know my sister used to get that a lot. And even I got it once in a while, so I understand where your coming from. People will say stuff like “geez, stop being so loud” or “come on I cant get an word in edge wise”. It’s all in good fun, don’t let it get to you. It took me a while to get to the point I’m at today, and I’m certainly not one to draw attention to myself even now. The trick is in knowing that fear cannot be reasoned away, it must be faced for it to go away, so my suggestion to you is to face your “fear” if you will. Just take it head on, it will be hard the first time I must admit, however it will get easier every time you do it. And realize that by doing this, you ARE getting rid of your shyness, one step at a time.
