  Yeah, but Sigourney Weaver was HOT.
  
  I liked how the alien recognized the cat Jonesy as a kindred spirit. It was the only time it stopped itself from killing something.

• What movie scared the bejesus out of you as a small child?
  

  The first time I saw The Wizard of Oz I had nightmares about it. I was about 3, I guess. I didn’t see it again for a few years so I didn’t know it was only a movie. I felt quite relieved the next time I saw it and figured out that it was fiction, not something that really happened.
  
  Pretty lame, huh? “If I only had a brain.”
  
  The other one was “The Thing.” The original with James Arness, not that John Carpenter annoyance. I was 5 or 6. I was supposed to be asleep but I hid out in the dark hallway watching the TV, and when the movie was over I sneaked back to bed and pulled the covers over my head.
  
  Another was some Jules Verne thing - maybe the Time Machine? There were slaves and the protagonist was leading a bunch of them through a cave with lava. I was - again - 5 or 6 and my parents weren’t home. I was so scared I called my uncle and asked him to come over. He told me that if I’m scared I should turn the TV off and I said “No! I want to watch it!”

  As if your problems stem from not being religious enough, right? Religion might make you feel better, but unless you’re a televangelist it doesn’t pay the bills. The problem is lack of opportunity.
  
  Lack of opportunity is a social problem. If you don’t have access to education and affordable child care, there you are.
  
  Globalization is bringing a whole new set of problems. It’s only going to get worse. More and more educated, formerly privileged people are going to find themselves in the same boat as you.
  
  Illegal immigration and “outsourcing” wouldn’t happen if Americans would do menial labor for a few dollars a day with their babies tied to their backs, and without benefits or retirement plan.
